Calling all Cooks! I need your help ladies and gents. ;) This is my 3 Thanksgiving as a married woman and being on the other side of my family. I am hispanic and usually have other traditional meals for the holidays (so lack the experience). Anyhow, the past 2 years I have made a turkey for Thanksgiving. This year, I'd LOVE to attempt a ham. Today, I bought a nice butt ham and the problem is...........I have no idea how to season it! PLEASE, share your recipes. I will be making the traditional mashes potatoes, green bean casserole, pumpkin pie etc to go along with it. I am seeking delicious and simple ways of giving my butt (no pun intended) a good taste  Thanks in advace!! Jess |
I make a honey ham...i put my ham in a baking dish and and than in a bowl i take brown shgar and put water in it and mix it to make a liquid and i pour it all over the ham and than i take honey and put it all over the top and than i add pineapple slices with toothpicks on the the top and than put tSOME of the juice in the bottom. Its really good......I SLOWLY bake it about 275 for about 3 hrs and its tender and tastes great! Im taking a ham to my inlaws for thanksgiving like usual because thats what they always ask for! |

This may sound a little strange, but I like mixing brown sugar and mustard to poor over the ham. The bite of the mustard goes away during the cooking process. It's also good to poke some whole cloves into the ham before pouring the sauce over, no matter what kind you use. |

Do you use plain yellow mustard of dijon? I will definitely add the cloves to the list as well :p |

Killer Ham Sauce ¼ C toasted mustard seed. (Dry toast until they turn grayish) 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 1/2-tablespoon ground ginger ¾ C Dijon mustard 2 tablespoons light-brown sugar 2 tablespoons dark-brown sugar 3 tablespoons light corn syrup 3 tablespoons unsulfured molasses 1 can pineapple JUICE only, then use ½ can of the actual pineapple A few tablespoons of ham juice Mix everything together in food processor or blender; simmer in small pan until hot. I love this ham sauce, and my guests went crazy over it...... |
Surfie, That sounds out of sight! I will have to try your recipe too. Thanks for sharing it. |
