How many dogs are you allowed?
 
I had to go uptown to register Riley with the county yesterday so while I was there I asked how many dogs a person was allowed to have in this city/county. I was shocked at the reply...'as many as you want as long as you take care of them and we don't get any complaints'. :eek: I've never heard that answer before...I thought every county had a pet limit. What about where you live?

same as you as long as you take care of them they dont have a problem & i pray they never change it

That is surprising. I live out in the country, The county says you can have 6 dogs. Beyond that you have to apply for a kennel license. But then the guy basically said that as long as there are no complaints they won't bother you.

I have not registered my dogs.

That's kind of what I expected her to answer with but I was surprised when she didn't. Actually, I asked because I want a little girl and I didn't want my husband to be able to use a pet limit as an excuse to say no! I registered both boys when we moved here last spring, it's cheaper if they're neutered/spayed...not sure why...maybe to encourage people to spay/neuter? Anyway, it was $30.00 for Jo because he has a 3 year rabies shot but it's only $10.00 for Riley because he has a 1 year shot. So, now if they ever get out and get picked up (which I can't see happening...ever!) they will have their county tag, AVID tag for the microchip and a name and address tag from Petsmart. Shouldn't be a problem finding out who they belong to!

There is no limit where I live as far as I know. We just moved here in May. I got a invoice in the mail from the city asking for payment to register Hootie, but it didn't mention Hobbs. How do they know I have Hootie, but not Hobbs? Of course I'm not gonna volunteer any information! Just thought it was odd. :rolleyes:

They go by the rabies shot...it has to be reported to the county I guess so then they know when your dog needs to be registered again. We've always had to register our dogs in Illinois and Florida.

I guess that is why Hobbs isn't registered....he had his rabies shot before we moved and has not had one here. This is the first place I've ever lived where we had to register our dogs. They don't do it everywhere.

My parents don't have to register there dogs where they live, but where I live we have to (we haven't registered Rocky yet since we haven't lived here that long) and it said that were only allowed 2 dogs! Can you believe that! In our townhome we probably won't have room for more than that, but if I bought a house over here I would atleast want three, a mix of big and little dogs. Atleast now I know one more thing to research when I move again.

I believe in Mass you can have up to 5 or 6 dogs...after that you would need a kennel license......someone (from mass) correct me if I am wrong..

I think we can only have six dogs, but we have to pay a dog tax. It's only like $3.00 per dog.

We don't have a limit as long as you take care of them. I'd probably cry if they put a limit because it would more than likely be something rediculous like "3 pets." No. We don't have to register them I don't think.

I don't leave collars on mine. I know I should have them microchipped, but I haven't done that yet either.

Same here and i live in Texas. As many as you want as long as you can care for them.
