Cross Country Road Trip~Ever Done This? I'm looking for anyone that would like to give me some advise on driving cross country. I'm going from NC, to Vancouver, Canada...With Thor of course...I;m going to turn it into a bit of sight seeing as the is one heck of a drive. Are there any 'must sees' on the way...On the way could mean anything from Nevada, to Kansas, to South Dakota...:D |
Oooh...I love road trips! I don't really have any info for that neck of the woods but we yardsaled our way to Tennessee one time...it was a blast! I like to stop at the out of the way places...not just the big touristy sites but nature sites are always first on my list. |

i always wanted too. have fun.:) |
You are going to have soooooo much fun! I drove from Alaska to Virginia with the monkeys and we had a great time! Mt. Rushmore is amazing but they don't let dogs into the park itself so I just parked and let the monkeys see it from the parking lot :) Sturgis is fun, the Harley shop let the monkeys in to shop, and the Black Hills are beautiful! Are you planning on staying in hotels? I found that the Holiday Inn Expresses were clean and pet friendly. |

I would really recommend becoming a member of CAA or AAA and getting a 'trip tic' (not sure how it's spelled) for the voyage. It maps out your whole trip....even detours when there is road construction. They are really worth the money and also list sight seeing things along the way and give info on each city, etc. We used to travel quite a bit years ago so I'm an old hand at how to travel with little ones. Fourteen years ago we travelled a few thousand miles to visit my dad and my son was 3 months old and my daughter was 3...talk about a challenge!! But I was well prepared so the trip went surprisingly well. Are you travelling with skinkids too? I have lots of tips for you to keep them busy if you're in need. It helps also to buy one of the electric coolers that plugs into the van. They are worth their weight in GOLD..lol... Like my hubby says, when going on holiday pack your clothes in your wallet and your money in your suitcase and you'll be fine :) Hope you have a great time! |

No skin kids for me (maybe next time...cause it'll be in a few years before I would ever drive back). You sound like a trooper, packing up two kids and doing it. I bet you are a PRO at entertaining kids in the car now!! Thanks for the advice. I am a AAA member, can I just go to their website and find what you're talking about? |

I think I've decided to go to Rushmore and Yellow stone for two of my destinations! |
Whats good inbetween Chigaco and Mt. Rushmore??? Anything?? |
Wow, that will be quite the drive!! when are you going? You might want to avoid certain areas depending on the time of year and potentially bad weather. I grew up in Vancouver, BC -it's absolutely beautiful there. My family is all there still and I try to get back often. I've never done the cross country drive but my hubby did - from Toronto, ON, Canada to Scottsdale, AZ. And then last year from Scottsdale, AZ to New Hampshire. He loves to drive and didn't do much sightseeing. He found those books on CD were a huge help. It sounds silly but he said you really get into them and it keeps you going. |
