Question for those who have cats... I have 3 female cats, I got them all at different times and at different ages. They all got along perfectly, they were all best friends and loved playing and sleeping together. So the first cat (Skittles) I got was old enough to be spayed so I went and had her spayed. After she got spayed the other two cats didn't want anything to do with her, they were mean to her and basically hated her. This was about a year ago. So the second cat (Peaches) got old enough so I got her spayed. So things pretty much stayed the same. Then I got my third cat (Oreo) spayed. After Oreo came home, Peaches wanted nothing to do with her and hates her and is very mean to her. And they were best buddies!?! So now I have 3 cats that all loved each other until I got them spayed and now that they are spayed they all hate each other and no one gets along with anybody. I don't understand this, why is this happening??? Has anyone had this happen or know why this has happened?? It is horrible, they all want someone to play with but they hate each other so they don't have anyone to play with. Why would spaying them make a difference?? They use to love each other so much and now they can't stand each other. |
I only own one cat...........he loves everything and anyone. Hope someone with experience comes by soon. Good luck |
I noticed a change in how my cats got along after one got fixed. I think the scent they put off is different. I just figured that they needed to get acquainted with the new scent, just as they did with the old scent when a new cat first joined the group. In other words, a spayed cat is a stranger to the others in the group. |
I had Dusty first for a year then Pepper came and when the time came to get pepper spayed is when war broke loose. They fight all the time and it seems since Grayson has been here they fight even more with each other. Grayson is now barking at them as if to say stop it! I wish I could say it will get better, it has only got worse for me! |
That happened to cats that we had years ago. I wish I had an explanation for it...perhaps ask the vet? I'm curious, too. |
It is nice to know that I am not the only one who has this problem. I sure hope they start getting along soon, I hate seeing them fight. I was thinking too that maybe it had to do with their scent. The day I would bring them back from the vet, the other cat would go up to them and they would smell each other and then start fighting and it hasn't stopped since. It is a horrible lose-lose situation. I had to get them spayed, they were marking/peeing everywhere when they were in heat but yet I get them spayed and now they all hate each other and want to kill each other. My cocker spaniel hates seeing anyone fight whether it be dogs or cats or whoever it is. She is always the peace maker. So when the cats start fighting she will actually get in between them and stop them from fighting and send them their corners. It is funny to watch, she just hates fighting. But I hope this fighting with the cats stops soon, I just wish they were all friends again. Thanks everyone for your help, I will pray that they start getting along soon and I think I will ask my vet why they are doing this and if there is anything I can do before they end up hurting each other. |
