Looking for thread about nursing abandoned kitten... Hi! I know somewhere on this forum I read a thread about someone who had to nurse abandoned kittens. I did a search but came up w/everything but that. Yesterday, our neighbor who is deathly allergic to cats, found an abandoned kitten that other cats were trying to attack. She took it in, then brought it to us because she knows we have cats and love them. Anyways, the last thing we need is another pet (3 cats, a chinchilla, and Bella in less then 1200sq ft!) but I couldn't help but take it. We called various shelters/vets etc, but they all said the kitten would need to be at least 6 weeks before they took it. This kitten is probably around 3, it's eyes are opening but it's ears are still tucked. I've been feeding it the just born formula and attempting to stimulate it to pee/poo and although I've gotten it to pee twice, I have not gotten it to poo. Any help or suggestions would be great!!! Thanks! Cheska |
I've raised orphaned kittens before, but all I did was give them milk with little pieces of bread in it. I had one litter I raised that didn't even have their eyes open when their mother got killed. I used the corner of a washcloth soaked in cow's milk. That was a long time ago, before there was all the stuff available now. We just had to improvise or wing it. It always worked. I did it with a bunny, a raccoon, a house finch, a snapping turtle, and that's all my memory can conjure up right now. I did use an eyedropper as the got bigger. Prayers for a healthy little kitten. |
