I'm Retiring In Five Weeks!!! I'm retiring from teaching on November 17th and I just can't wait. I'm so excited about this. It's a whole new life, and one of the reasons I got Max. I'm divorced and, sadly, my daughter and I don't agree on her husband, so Max rounds out my life so beautifully. Retirement is a bit scary, but the thought of being able to do whatever comes my way that I enjoy thrills me. I'm also so glad to have my lttle dog by my side. He's a sweet little boy and the perfect retirement buddy. He's also so happy when I'm home with him. Of course, I don't plan on us being home a lot. I'm a very young 59 and plan to be out and about with Max tagging along to wherever they let me bring him. Just wanted to share my excitement with you guys. Judy |
That is wonderful news! The best thing you can do in retirement is to do what you have always wanted to do. Take time to relax and refresh and then make a plan about what you want to do and what you DON'T want to do. People seem to think that because you retired, that you have plenty of time to do anything they ask - NOT TRUE! You might consider volunteering at something that could involve your little boy - maybe visiting a nursing home - you can't imagine how much they would love seeing you and your little one. Also, you might think about volunteering for something in which you could use your teaching skills - like at a senior citizens center (can you tell that older adults are my life's passion!) Whatever you decide to do - find your passion and figure out how it can become a center piece for your life now! Good luck! |
That is such fabulous news! CoNgRaTuLaTiOnS!!!! :congrats: My dad just retired at the end of August, and he, too, was somewhat apprehensive about what he was going to do with his time, as he's been working full-time since he was 16! But, after the reality of retirement set in, he has not had any trouble finding fun things to occupy himself with. Good luck to you as you begin the next phase of your life with your little companion Max! I know the both of you will have a BLAST! |
Congratulations!!!! Enjoy your next chapter of your life. I had to take a forced retirement 1 1/2 years ago at age 53 after 33 years at the same company. At first I was devastated, Now I love the freedom. I also am taking care of my elderly parents which takes up a lot of my day but still enjoy my time off. |
I retired early due to a disability. I was also afraid of not having enough to do. But now I wonder when I would find time to go to work. I sew, I write, I garden, I work with my dogs on obedience, I garden, I crochet, and sometimes I just spend the entire day messing around on the computer. Congratulations! If you find yourself with nothing to do, there is always YT. |
Congratulations! That is so awesome and you deserve to go in whatever direction your heart pulls you. You have your trusty little companion by your side, so let nothing stand in your way. ENJOY! (I was all set to retire this year since my husband's new company he had started with his son's had finally reached the point where I could, but he worked too hard to get to that point and died of a heart attack last xmas. So now I find myself working 1 job and having to get another just to survive. My retirement will have to wait). I wish you the best and if you are ever traveling in NE PA, stop by for a visit. Roxy would love to meet and play with Max. :) |
Congratulations on your retirement. I am so looking forward to retiring myself, but have a ways to go. I'm 51 and don't know if I could drive a bus till retirement age...LOL Would probably scare the kids to death.... |
Congratulations on your upcoming retirement! Retiring with a Yorkie by your side sounds perfect. I love the idea of visiting nursing homes and hospitals with your pup, if that's a possibility. |

We had always intended to do a lot of traveling in retirement. That may or may not happen but I know God has a plan for us (and for you too). My prayers are with you as you face hardships. |

I hope that you and your daughter will be able to agree to disagree on her husband and cherish your relationship with each other. Who knows, grandchildren may be next on your agenda. Your opinion of him may even be altered if he is a good father to your grandchildren and loves the same people you love. |

Congratulations Enjoy it. I will be there in 7 years. I just turned 50 last month. I am going through a divorce now. I had to give up two of my babies. I got to keep one. I will get more later after I get my own place. |
Congratulations on your upcoming retirement! I'm sure you've had many wonderful years teaching! But, I can imagine how exciting the next chapter of your life will be. I have a long way till I can retire, I've only been teaching for 3 years...but I love everyday of it! Enjoy your new adventures! Do you have anything fun and exciting planned? |
Congratulations Judy on your retirement. It sounds wonderful not to be tied to a schedule. You can come and go as you and your side kick please:) I am not far behind you. March 07 I am hopefully planning. That is also why I got Buddy late in life, so to speak, for a campanion. I also lost my husband 19yrs ago when I was 45 years old. Can't wait to stay home especially in the winter. I won't have to shovel my car out!:thumbdown I can sit and count the snow flakes instead:D Good luck to you. I bet in no time you will wonder where you found time to work. Carol |

I'm so sorry that things worked out this way for you right now. Life can turn on a dime, can't it? Hang in there and be strong. We're all pulling for you on YT. Judy |
Judy Congratulations on your upcoming retirement.. You worked hard and deserve to enjoy the next chapter of your life. Your still young and I hope your retirment brings you much happines and maybe a new man who will be good to you. Try to make peace with your daughters husband, sometimes we may not like who our children married but if he treats her well, what more can we ask for... As for the rest of the women who has become widowed or divorced I am so sorry to hear and hope that all are making a new life for yourselves. God Bless.. |
18 MORE WORK DAYS TILL RETIREMENT!!! I have to shop for a really sexy dress - they're making me a big retirement party. I was told to get a low cut neckline, so I thnk they're buying me a necklace. I have very good friends there. My other friends may .be planning something. If not, I'm going to make a party, BYOB and we'll order in, or I'll do a few Costco platters, deserts, etc. We do New Years at my house this way and it's a lot of fun. Life is good!! |
I Did It!!! I was on the train to put in my retirement papers for Nov.17th and realized that I just wanted to leave right now. When I got down to the Teacher's Retirement System office, I asked them to move up my date and I have officialy retired as of yesterday, Nov. 2nd. This feels so great! I have complete and absolute freedom to do whatever I want, whenever I want to. I love this feeling of freedom. Max is thrilled - he's such a happy little puppy anyway, but now Mommy's home all the time. I decided to try to take him with me wherever I can get him in. Last night I had a meeting of my Women's Center Board and along came Max. My friends were delighted to see him. I finally have some time to go on YT this morning and this afternoon, Max and I will go dog food shopping and then wherever else we want. Thank you all so much for your support and advice - I think bringing Max to either a children's ward or a senior citizen's place is a wonderful idea. I MIGHT try to look for a nice, wonderful, perfect (do they exist?) bf. I have no idea what else - I'm going to go with the flow and follow my insrincts. As far as my daughter is concerned, I pray a lot. I have 3 beautiful grandchildren too. Her husband, sadly, is a very bad man, and nothing I have tried has worked. Men like him like to isolate and control their wives, and the last person they want around is their wife's mother. The rest of my life is great. I wish you all the same feeling freedom. Judy |
