Prayers needed please. Well guys, my hubby is in the hospital. I went to get groceries yesterday afternoon and when I got home he said you had better take me to the er. His blood pressure was up to 130/110 about 10 minutes before I got home. That is extremely high for him as his usually runs less than 100. So we spent from 430 till almost 11 in the er before someone told me they were just waiting on a bed. So I got his settled and then came home to get a couple of hours sleep and update the kids. Would you believe Graff had peed on our bed not once but twice. Once on his side and once on my side. So at midnight I was changing sheets on my bed. He has never done that. Back to my hubby, I really couldn't get much info from the nurses last night so am looking forward to talking to the doctor this morning. My hubby is going to be mad at me for not going to work but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do, and I need to be there. So guys send some more vibes my way as we need all the luck we can get. |

Oh Lora, what is it with these husbands!!! :( Mine was in the hospital too, a couple of weeks ago. He went into atrial fibrillation with a heart rate of 140!!! They had to shock his heart to get it back to a normal rhythm. The fast rate made his heart failure flare up and he could hardly breathe and hardly even get to the bathroom. They pulled lots of fluid off his lungs, but pulled too much off and put him into renal failure. He is getting much much better now, but it will take him several weeks to get back on his feet like he was. This is all to say, stick close to your husband and question everything that you need to. I will be sending you all my positive thoughts for a good outcome. Take care of yourself too! |
Well finally some answers. No new heart damage noted but his potassium was critically low. They are trying to get it back up but it is a very slow process with him. Doctor says that normal people when their potassium starts dropping the symptoms they show he has all the time anyway so he doesn't notice anything new until it is critical. He has been very depressed and crying today. But was better before I left. He made me come home so that I could rest a little, yeah right I have been cleaning house or on the phone since I got home. I am taking tomorrow off too and he didn't throw as big a fit as I thought he would. We did alot of talking today. Plus it is a big help with the nurses to have a family member there to take care of things. His brother is coming in Sunday to spend the day and then his dtr said that her and grandbabies will be in next weekend. Doc says if his potassium comes up to normal tomorrow he will let him come home. If not he has to stay until it does so that they can monitor his heart. |
I am glad they diagnosed him. Praying he feels better soon and can come home tomorrow. |
Lora, I'm sending special prayers your way. I hope they can get the levels back up soon and he can go home to recuperate. That's where everyone wants to be.:) |
I hope he get's better so he can come home to his family :) |
Sending prayers and well wishes for a quick recovery... Gina |
I am so very glad to hear that he doesn't have any more heart damage - that is GREAT news!!! Hopefully, that potassium will rise quickly so that he can get out of the hospital. Thanks for giving us an update! |
So glad your hubby is ok and will be coming home soon. He will recover alot quicker at home than in a hospital. Sending prayers and hugs. :) |
I will be praying for you and your hubby i hope he gets feeling better soon! |
Well guys I got to bring him home last night but the news is not all good. They had a heck of a time getting his potassium up. Finally got it up to 3.3 after 2 runs of potassium and with holding all of his water pills. So he is unable to take any diuretics for at least a week. Which means we are probably going to be in trouble before next week is out. He is watching his sodium intake and fluid intake very closely. If he takes the water pills then he can breathe better but his potassium drops so low he goes in to v tach. So we are basically between a rock and a hard place. Plus the company that supplies his cpap stuff called today and they are picking up the oxygen next week but stated that the lung doctor wants him to continue to use the cpap. I have a feeling that we are in for a long hard road again, either that or he is going to say enough is enough. I am going to do some checking on a alaskan vacation as he has always said that he would love to go there again before he dies, don't know if it will be within my budget but I got to try. I feel so helpless otherwise. Maybe at least I can do that for him. |
Hi Lora, I'm glad that your husband is home - but I am sorry that things are not going well. You are right, I'm afraid that without his water pill, he will be in trouble. I don't understand why they are picking up the oxygen. I think the doctor should contact the insurance co (if that is who is making the oxygen go away) and tell them the situation about the potassium and the water pills. When he gets fluid in his lungs, then the oxygen will, at least, make him feel a little better, like he can get some air into his lungs. His kidneys must be getting rid of too much potassium if they have stopped his water pills and still have trouble getting his potassium up. Has he seen a kidney doctor? They know a whole lot more about how medications affect the kidneys than the heart doctors know. My husband has kidney problems and the kidney doctor is always consulting with his heart and other doctors on what meds to give him and what meds are bad for his kidneys. It's just a thought about another way to attack this problem. I would definitely look into the Alaska trip. Are you thinking of a cruise? I think your husband could manage that. I took mine to Alaska year before last when he thought he was going to die of heart failure. He was pretty sick, but really enjoyed the cruise to Alaska. He could rest as much as needed in our room on the ship and we got a room with a balcony and so he could sit out there and see the sights without having to walk very far. Good luck with everything, please keep us posted. I look for your updates every night because I truly do understand what you are going through. Take care. |
They did a test on his kidneys here a while back and they were working fine. I was thinking of a cruise but nothing available until late spring. And it looks pretty pricey too. I will keep checking. I did find something that wasn't too bad in Vegas which is another place he said he would like to go. But not for sure how much he could do there and it is still almost 3000. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. |
I'd like to know how he progresses and what plans you might make for any vacations.:) Take care. Hugs. |
