May Day! No, I'm not in distress :D I was just thinking that today is what we used to call May Day when I was growing up in elementary school. We danced around a flag pole with different colered ribbons weaving in and out, at least the girls did if I remember right. It was a pretty big deal back then! We also chose a May Day Queen and I remember being nominated one year but I got beat out by this girl named Lisa Ryan :p Does anyone remember this??? I'm quite sure they don't do it anymore. Where is everybody at today!?! I guess since it's SUnday lots of the regulars are busy with family and such. I'm doing housework  I miss it when everyone isn't on! |
Here in the UK Mayday is tomorrow [Monday] and is a bank hol and is great because I have the day off work !! :) :) :) |
May Day! When I was little and we lived in Nebraska I think on May 1st we delievered baskets to all of our friends - rang the door bell and left them there! That was the best!! :D |
That's neat aimee! I've never heard of leaving baskets for May Day! In fact, I never hear May Day mentioned or celebrated anymore....except for trish who gets to lay out of work tomorrow :D |
I've never heard anyone else in the US talk about it besides my childhood friends. When we were in the UK though, it was nice :) |
never heard of it its just another regular day here lol |
I never heard of it either! Hmmmm sounds like it could be fun :) . I have done nothing the past two days. I have been sooo sick. I am started to feel worthless ;) . My house is so trashed right now  . Oh well when I do start to feel better I am going to have alot of work to do  |
1 Attachment(s) When I was young (ages ago) we also did the May Day baskets with treats in them. We'd lots of times make our own by weaving paper, or just use paper cups and add pipe cleaners for the handles. We'd leave it at the door, knock or ring the bell and then when the person answered the door, they'd have to catch the giver and give them a kiss. One time when I was chasing a little boyfriend, a neighborhood bully stole my basket. I was heartbroken. LOL Anyway, I still got baskets ready when my kids were young and also for my grandkids...even though most people don't even know what this basket of goodies is all about. This is soooo funny...while I was typing this message, my doorbell rang and there sat a basket of goodies. My niece's kids were hiding outside, so I had to catch them and give them a kiss. I took a picture of the basket...it's sooooo cute! |
I have never heard of baskets of goodies and things. I have heard of children dancing round a maypole on the end of ribbons in the olden days. We just celebrate it here with a day off work now. :) :) |

That IS so funny Connie! What a cute little basket! Thanks for sharing the pic:) If I left baskets at my neighbors door they'd probably think I wanted something, lol! :) myfirstyorkie, I sure do hope you feel better! I know exactly what you mean about how the house gets trashed when you are ill. Happens here too:( |
