What a great "new twist" in this story!!! I'm so happy for all of you, including the mother of the twins. Sometimes things just work out beautifully. I think if you give them a gift for the babies, which is where their priorities seem to lie right now, that would be appreciated. If this were a perfect world, it would be filled with people like you. Judy |

is.....the love we all have for EACH OTHER! and to the warm heart and soul in each of us.....not just regarding Rusty....but the love of caring and loving that everyone that has posted on this thread has shown....... We all may not be "tactfull" all the time......or we may get annoyed with how people post, or how they raise their Yorkies......or how they breed.....or, or ,or.....whatever.......but, what really makes me happy with this thread.....is....... -----there are really nice, genuine people here.......and that makes me smile.:):) ---and of course, I am really happy Rusty is finally home too. |

I don't think you should have to pay them anything. They aren't posting Rusty as For Sale, so you really have no obligations. If anything, they should be paying you for feeding him, lol |
I have been following this thread from the get go, I am so happy you get to keep Rusty!! He looks like he belongs with you and your family! |
I dont see why the owner had a problem if with the dog coming over, especially once you calmed him down. I think that you should just call him and talk to him, maybe you can find out if the dog can come over and play with your dogs for the day, so that he does not disturbe the babies. |
Awwww.......that was so nice to say and post! My family and I aren't angels for doing this....we are only doing what most everyone else would have done in our situation..........YOU all on YT are the angels for giving me adivce and support and for praying and thinking of us and Rusty during this all! I really don't know what we would do without you all! Quote:

Updating....... Still no word from the neighbors today.......I am not certain when her MIL was leaving.......and I doubt if she had very much luck w/ talking him into coming over to sit and chat! We did see a truck pull part of the way down our drive (it was the color of theirs), but Rusty and our German Sheppard ran up there, but the truck just backed all the way out. I don't know if it was our neighbor coming and then chickened out or what?? Rusty is still here, so I don't know. I don't mind to have his stuff.....it would be good for him, I guess, but we don't necessarily need it. I just think it would be a good "closure" for them and their way of "cleaning their hands" of him.....even though he is soooo well behaved over here! Quote:

Jenn, I'm loving this thread and admiring you so much. You are my new role model for being tactful in the face of my enemies. Since you were thinking about giving those toys to your neighbors, why not go over there and hand them to them. Saying (tactfully) whatever you want to say about "why" you want them to have them. Don't mention Rusty. That may be the ice breaker they need to finally say yes to your ownership. The guy is probably too embarrassed now to let him go after saying all of that crap about wanting him. Geez, you have been held in suspension for too long. Wish you could get closure on this. I'm saying my prayers for you too. Good luck and please please keep us updated even if it is status quo. Hugs for you and your family (4-footed ones included.) Lou |
Wonderful story I just read this thread from the first post and I am sitting here in my office with tears in my eyes. Rusty seemed to be looking for the attention and love he needs and found that with you and your loving family. How wonderful for both of you." Jenn, this would make a great children's book".:) I think the owners are releaved to know he has the kind of home he deserves. I hope they let him continue living with you and your family and do not try and get him later. He is one lucky pup. I am sure he knows that. He is a beautiful lab and certainly is confortable in you home which says alot for you. God bless you for your kindness. Much happiness to all of you. Carol & Buddy:aimeeyork |
do you still have him ?? |
Update: We still have Rusty......he hasn't been "home" in so long and we haven't seen or heard from the neighbors. When I spoke w/ her last (at Target last week), she had said that her mother was in from out of state, so we are waiting awhile before we go over there. We thought our neighbor pulled into our driveway over the weekend (Sunday, I think), but was too afraid to come down here or something. Anyway, we found it was my cousin....he is back from the Marines for awhile and was just out driving around w/ a "girlfriend" showing her where everyone lived, etc. We live WAY out from town, so thought it was silly that he didn't come down all the way....but he said he seen a few cars and were afraid we had company (as if that mattered). Anyway, back to Rusty.....he is doing good. He did growl at my daughter last night because she got on to him over eating our German Sheppards food....I got on to him and he stayed outside for awhile. When he was allowed to come back in, he was her buddy......he knew he did something wrong. It is funny how smart dogs are! --smarter than most people I know! HA! He has been fine ever since then.....don't know what his deal was??? My parents stopped by last night and of course, Rusty didn't want them to get out of the car and Luke was right there with his big head in their car (he is a biiiiigggg boy)....but once they got out and come in, Rusty just LOVED my Dad!!! I think my Dad liked him too. My Dad needs a dog and wants one, just hasn't found one (he always looks at shelters). I told him he ought to take Rusty (even though we would miss him)....and then if the neighbors ever came for him, we wouldn't have him....that is horrible, isn't it??!!! But, Rusty is still here and still getting spoiled rotten (like all the children and furchildren that come into my house). |
hahahaha sounds like he's checkin everone out that comes to his new home - You rock girl - I've been checking for updates too and was happy to see this bumped back up. High Fives to you Rusty - you knew just where to hang out and get some good lovin.....How nice you fit in so well with your new family... |
I TOO HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THIS THREAD AND AM GLAD TO KNOW YOU STILL HAVE RUSTY. IT IS A HORRIBLE THING BUT RATHER SEE HIM DISAPPEAR TO A GREAT FAMILY THEN GO BACK TO THE ONE HE DOESN'T LIKE. :animal36 |
I love the updates of Rusty's big adventure. I am glad that you guys still have him. Weird that they haven't even called in so long. I guess it's best for \Rusty. I hope yo guys get to officially keep him, he seems so happy! |
AWW! I hope the best to you I feel so sorry for him:cry: |
2 Attachment(s) Still no word from the neighbors......I have been meaning to go over there to take their toys I have for them, but we are always busy or maybe just procrastinating.......well, plus, we know her mother is visiting from out of state too.......... I promise, I will go over there soon! In the meantime, Rusty is still here and living it up....getting his belly rubbed every night, getting good food and treats.......just having a blast. Here are some pictures of him.......... Attachment 77772 Attachment 77773 - we thought this pictures was funny!!! |
Glad to hear he is still there. |
Glad to hear things are still going good! I hope your visit with your neighbors goes well :) |
How is Rusty doing? |
Well, Rusty is still w/ us and his owners haven't been around for weeks now. He stays here all day an dall night, eats, sleeps, plays, etc...never goes home. I haven't been over to see the neighbors yet....first excuse was that her mother was in from out of state for a few weeks and now my excuse is that it is Thanksgiving. So maybe next week, I will make a trek over there to see them. Thanks for asking! He is doing good......he listens really well and he has become really comfortable around us and in our home. We had to move up to the big 44lb bag of dog fed for them! And they all get missing link in their food too. Plus, goodies every day and for the holidays. |
this is such a super story! Best wishes to you! d |
One more update....well, maybe!! Okay, I hadn't posted in awhile about Rusty or our neighbors, so I thought I would tonight. Did you notice my signature?????? WELLLLLLLLLLLLLL.......RUSTY IS OURS!!! I spoke w/ the "girlfriend" and we are getting all of his things tomorrow. I still apologized for him staying over here....and wanted to make sure she knew that we didn't "steal" him and that we tried everything to get him to not want to stay here and to go home....until it got to the point that he wasn't eating and not going home. She said that they understood and knew that we didn't force him to stay there. She said that he came over the other day and she called him, but he just looked at her and trotted back our way. I feel sorry for her, in a way, but Rusty is definitely living it up over here and getting the attention he had been missing! She did say that she finally came to realize that it had to have been because her attention pretty much stopped going to Rusty when she brought the twins home. She said that she knew it was her fault that he wasn't happy there and plus, they were getting tired of having to come and get him every day, etc. She did say that she asked her boyfriend/husband/whatever they are if she could have another dog.....I didn't know if she was serious or not. But, I don't think they will get another one....or I really hope not, since she seems to understand what happened w/ Rusty......that would happen w/ another dog too! Anyway, it is nice to know that we are both at a understanding about what happened (I don't feel guilty and she doesn't blame us, etc)....and that Rusty is finally "HOME"...not just "our neighbors dog".........he is now a part of our family (okay, he has been for awhile).....but now he is really ours!...YAY!!! |
I've been following this story and it's so nice to hear that he is finally yours :) |
ohh congratulations :D:D:D:congrats: :clapsmile :yay_jump: |
YIPPPEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! Happy ending! |

And a big thumbs up to Jenn for her wonderful use of diplomacy! I am so happy for that dog! Thanks for letting us know. |
After reading about Rusty's recent accident, I went in search of his "story". I wasn't on YT much last November, and completely missed this! I decided to post. This is such a wonderful story, and I'm sure there are many members who missed it the first time around. You and your family did a wonderful thing, and it is obvious how happy Rusty is with you! |
I'm glad you bumped this up. Wonderful story. |
Wow I can't believe it has been that long but you are right it is a great story. |
I can't believe you all bumped this up! This is sooooo old now!! hee,hee Yep.....Rusty is just like any of our other dogs...he loves it here...but even after a year being here...he still has communication issues...meaning, he doesn't communicate well with us...he is still growling occassionally, etc...sometimes I just do not know how to take him...but considering, he probably never learned any better....I will forgive him and keep working w/ him. |
