got the scare of my life Tuesday afternoon I got the phone call I have always been afraid of...my bf called me to tell me he got into a motorcycle accident, I don;t think I have ever been so scared....He was very very lucky hes ok just very sore now, after skidding about 60 feet, he got ejected 12 feet into the air after he hit the car that pulled out in front of him and thank god he landed ok...just a few minor cuts...I have never seen someone so lucky...Its scary to know that just 1 person who you don't even know, bacause of their lack of being careful could have changed my life forever...so as you can imagine I've had a rough 2 days, i took off work yesterday, to take care of him cause his back was really bad yesterday, I come into work this morning and they are all annoyed cause I took the day off....but if it was their family, it would be a different story....sorry so long...im a little annoyed today.... |
Yes, he was very lucky!! My husband was in a motorcycle accident back in 2000 and he wasn't quite as lucky as yours. A truck turned in front of him, he hit it and flew clear across the highway. Yes, his helmet saved his head but nothing could save his leg from the mess it became. The dr. was very concerned that he might lose it but they managed to save it. He had a horrible break in the lower leg.... ended up with a steel rod in it (that surgery came later after the break had mended some), he had to wear a steel halo on the leg for a long time while it healed and then had to have skin grafts to cover the chunk that was taken out. He was off work for about 10 months. It nearly killed us financially but we made it through. He has a slight limp now and will need further surgery on his knee when the dr. determines it's time. He has not been able to put his Harley back together because other finances have to come first but he still insists that he WILL ride someday again. Honestly, it's not the motorcyclists that worry me so much as the cars/trucks that just don't pay enough attention. That will always be my biggest concern so I hope that he gives up the "dream" before it gets him killed. So glad that your hubby is okay. Give him extra lovin'!!!! |
Wow he was extremely lucky!! You just never know when you are going to get 'that' phone call...very scary!! Glad to know he is recovering well..he sure will be sore for a while!! Take good care and ignore the people from work..I would have taken the day off too!! Dawn |
How awful! But you are very lucky he's still with you. Sorry your co-workers are being that way.:( |
Glad this had a good outcome. My husband has a Harley and had one accident many years ago similar to what you are describing. Totaled the bike but thankfully he was ok. His bike has been down all summer and it was good for me but not for him.! |
yes he is very lucky...well of course he keeps saying "He will ride again"...I think most do, I'm not happy about it...he has already said he really doesn't want me on it anymore...The whole front end is destroyed so he is basicly done riding for the season here, since its probably going to be cold by the time he gets it back...so I'll have some piece of mind..not too sure how I'm going to handle him getting back on again through...probably not too good. His riding never worried me either...its these people on the road who don't pay any attention to whats around them...his bike is very loud too, for that reason.. Thanks for all your kind words... |
Another thing..... his biker friends could never understand why I wouldn't ride with my husband. I just told them that SOMEONE has to be around for our children. That may be a gruesome way to look at it but you have to be responsible sometimes! All of the friends are older with grown kids.... they aren't looking at it in the same way I am. |

I'm so sorry this happened, but so glad that he's going to be okay! I'm sure he is awfully sore! Your coworkers should certainly be understanding of you taking a day off! Hugs to you! |
I'm really sorry to hear about your husbands accident! I ride a motorbike myself and I know only too well how many blind idiots there are on the roads... I'm glad he's not badly hurt though :) |
I'm so sorry about what you've been through. I'm glad that he is doing good though. My hubby always talks about getting a bike, but I always tell him that I don't want him to. Today is our 5 year anniversary. I couldn't imagine life without him. People here drive way too crazy. They don't care about cutting off other cars much less bikes. |
Wow, I'm so glad that he's okay! That's rude of your co-workers to act like that - your time off is there for you to use when and how you please, not to just let it sit there. |
How scary! I'm glad he's OK, and thats messed up of your coworkers |
Glad he is ok. My hubby had a bike when we married and on our 8th month anniversary we had a major wreck . All because a truck stopped suddenly in front of us. I broke and dislocated my ankle and almost lost my foot. That leg is now shorter than the other and I can not move the ankle much. Hubby had a rod through his broken leg and he broke his nose. He is also talking about getting another one. I told him his insurance had better pay off good for disabilty or death. Since I got Gypsy, I can understand he feels it is his time to get his "baby" though I hate it. |
