Cat urine - miracle needed here! I've tried : Ordoban, Odormute, Miricle Clean, Pets and kids, carpet cleaner, plain ole soap and water and two spots where my cat peed still stinks  Even after pulling up the carpet and spraying under it! Any suggestions??? |
Have you tried vinegar and water? 50% vinegar 50% water and put it in a spray bottle...I have it handy at all times. My babies have been accident free for a while now so I don't use it but when I first brought them home they would have a accident on my area rug every once in a while. That worked great for me. |
You probably need new carpet and pad - once that gets in there it's impossible to get out. |
yes vinegar and water works the best... also maybe you should put some vinegar in a glass bowl and just let it sit there until it desintigreats, it takes out all odors in the house |

NOT what I wanted to hear V !!!!!!!!! :D Hubby already throws a fit when he finds a little present on the floor every so often. He's convinced my animals are just "ruining" everything he's worked so hard to build. I'm more forgiving and just clean up after them. But this cat pee thing....UGH! I have no tolorance for it. There is just two spots. Right up by the molding. If I put my nose to it I van still smell it. |

yes white vinegar, and no just place it somewhere in that room.. i used to put it all over the house and sometimes still do cause i live by the ocean and sometimes when the tides are low, my house smells skanky and with the vinegar, it takes all rottens smells away,, you will although smell some of the vinegar, but its better than a rotten smell or pee odor |

If you find something that works good let me know. I have a cat that visits and likes to use my gardens as a litter box... PU! |
I hate cat urine!! I have 3 cats, all of who peed everywhere when they were in heat and right after they got spayed. It is the worst smell and the hardest smell to get rid of. I have had cats all my life. None of them peed on everything like the 3 cats I have now that I got last year. I can't figure it out. I use to love cats but now I don't want anymore and get upset with the ones I have now even though I love them to death. Alright you want to hear something horrible?? We are currently renting, it is a huge house, but has one serious downfall. The people who rented before us had cats and kept them in the basement. The basement totally reeks of cat urine, strong cat urine I may add, and when you take a black light you can see all the urine spots. The urine is soaked into the wood steps and concrete floor. What is worse is that on hot, humid, rainy, or damp days you can really smell the urine and the smell will come up from the basement and spread to the whole house!! We have tried soooo many things to get rid of it. We are now thinking of throwing bleach on the floor and steps to get rid of the smell, it is suppose to work, but we will probably have to leave the house for a day or so to give it time to air out. We are in the process of building a home but until everything is finished we are stuck here with the dreaded smelly basement. So, I would be very interested in whether on not the vinegar works, so please, please let me know if it works!! |
Do the vinegar & water and after it dries, you can use a fabric softener like downy or something with a little water it takes the vinegar smell away...and smells better...:) |
I hate to tell you this but I'm agreeing with Villette, too :( We had a similar problem to BLowry...the cats we had about 10 years ago started to go in the corner of our basement den...we tried EVERYTHING to clean that carpet. Heavy duty commercial cleaners made specifically for cat urine did nothing to get rid of it...we tried a few of them and spent tons of $$ but it seemed that nothing worked. We ended up getting rid of the carpet and underpad and had to scour the cement underneath which STILL maintained some of the urine smell!! This was years ago. Just recently, our newer cat decided she didn't want to go in her litter box anymore (daughter wasn't keeping it clean enough..it's her cat) so where does the cat go? In the same corner of the den in the basement!!!! The carpet is relatively new, so I know what the future holds for us....no more carpet in the den downstairs!! I'm going to put in laminate flooring as soon as I can afford it. Good luck...hopefully there are newer things out on the market now and if you find something that's successful, I'd love to hear about it! |
