Well guys we had our appt with the lung dr this morning. They bumped up his second sleep study from the 12th to tonight. Then they did a pulmonary function test and the results were not good at all. Normal results are 80% and his was 19%. We have to go back to Terre Haute this afternoon to pick up his supplies. I am hoping that this will qualify him for home oxygen. We did make the decision to never place him on a vent due to with his lung function he would never come off. Guys I am really afraid that he is very very close to saying enough. He was so worn out and so discouraged when we got home. He is now in bed due to being so worn out and the fact that we have to be back in Terre Haute this afternoon. Just wanted to give everyone an update even if it was not a good one. |
Lora, Thanks for the update - I'm so sorry that things are not going very well right now. It is really hard. Please take care and I hope he feels better and that his spirits can be lifted. |
He is doing really good with his cpap machine. Slept with it on all night friday night at his sleep study and said that he actually didn't feel tired when he woke up. And he took me out for breakfast Saturday morning when I picked him up. He put it on last night when we went to bed and kept it on all night too. They said since he had been a volunteer fireman for many years a long time ago and had to wear the air packs that is why he is able to tolerate the mask so well. He does not have oxygen at this time. The nurse at the supply store said it takes a pulse ox of 82 percent to qualify and that we should talk to the dr on our follow up appt on the 13th. |

I'm so happy to hear that he is doing well with the cpap machine - I so wish my husband could tolerate it. About the oxygen - my husband qualified for oxygen at night with an oxygen average of 88 during his sleep study - so you might check again - 82 sounds awfully low. My husband has blue cross and blue shield and now is on medicare since it has kicked in after 2 years of disability. I think the oxygen costs $350 per month, but we only have to pay $17 per month. |
