Hairdo Help Ok I am needing some serious updo help:p I need to find a STYLE and EXPLICIT instructions for creating a FABULOUS updo for my daughter. i have already looked and looked online but am more confused then EVER. I'm pretty clever with hair so if any hairstylists are out there and can give me GOOD advice and help as to products and styling methods....PLEASE DO:p WE want it VERY upswept. She has VERY LONG hair and it doesn't hold a curl well. Go figure. If it dries natural it's wavy.....but TRY and curl it and it FLOPS:eek: Not really looking for anything like a Chignon . UGH.. not to sound mean but please don't everyone tell me look for pix because that is NO HELP... I need step by exact step instructions:tongue036 |
I dont have any pics for this, i may be able to get one 2mo when my sister visits, but here are some step by step instructions for a fab updo! 1. put hair in a pony tail, fairly high up the head 2.seperate the pony tail into 4 sections, like a cross + 3.the hair section at the top of cross fold upwards 4.the right section of the cross fold out to the right 5.the left sectin fold to the left 6.the bottom section fold downwards once all are secured pull them to make a nice fan shape, add lots of hairspray and dada an amazing up do :) |
4 Attachment(s) Ok i have just done it quickly to my hair, it doesnt work as well as my hair is shorter, but you will get the idea from these pics. You can do it higher up on the head or lower down, or even to the side of your daughters head. Pull down some thin whispy bits of hair and curl them into ringlets for a really special effect, excuse the pics its like 12.54am here and im tired :) |
3 Attachment(s) and the last section going up and then its finished :) If you dont want 4 sections up you can do the top, left and right and leave the bottom section as a pony tail nd do it in ringlets ;) |
you could cheat and get hair pieces they work great, look great and you can match her hair perfect and take no time to put on. HSN has alot of nice one for a fair price and they look natural. I ball room dance and use them all the time and my hair is average thickness and shoulder length, they stay in all nite long |
I'm fixing to have to do a "dramatic updo" type thing for a play I'm in, and I was actually planning on doing a combination of the advice you've already gotten! I was going to use a cheap hairpiece (for the extra volume) THEN wrap my own hair over/around/under it, like Yorkie7 showed. |
Thanks guys. I think we want a REALLY intricate updo though. You know that sits up higher and has lots of curls and stuff. I'm reall confused because some instructions say totally dry hair and another says use molding cream when slightly damp. Yet even more instructions says moose and another says use babypower ...UGHH I'm so confused:confused: I suggested the hairpiece thing to ny daughter and she looked at me like i was CRAZY...LOL.. I can't blame her though. her hair is pretty long and i just can't imagine all that hair plus a hairpiece on her head:p Yorkie 7... Thanks so much for the pix.. I'm thinking I would like that style for MYSELF....I'm going to try it today on my hair:thumbup: |
It's hard for us to suggest any one particular style - the way she wears her hair depends on the style of dress she is wearing, her face shape, etc. Here's some links I found with Step-by-Step instructions... http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip3510.htm http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip1116.htm This one looks really easy to do - but the results look super complicated!http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip1014.htm This site has some instructions too... http://styles101.homestead.com/updos101.html Hope this helps... Post pictures when you do the 'do! |

i need instructions on exactly where and how to pin with step by step pictures. It seems I keep finding sites that have like 3 pix and 10 steps when I would need 10 pix for 10 steps:rolleyes: |
This might help...... her dress is kinda sleek not flffy... and I know she should wear a sleek updo with this kind of dress.... but that's not what she wants so it really is not up eo what i think. She want a big old full head of fluffs and whorls set up high:rolleyes: I'll probably string some beads or something through it for her. By the way. Her dress is VERY red and her hair is dark long and straight. She's tall and broad shouldered with a thin build with curves so I think she can pretty much carry off a BIG DO:D |
Stop stressing and worrying yourself silly and take her somewhere and let someone else deal with it. :D My kids go the the beauty school and they do a great job. Just give yourself a little more time when you schedule the appointment just in case you need to alter it a bit. The only issue I had with the school was they went heavy heavy on the eye make up and we made them redo it. |
I have loked online but cant really find anything, if she wants something really big, you can try doing my style with like 8 sections of hair instead of 4, and if she wants it high, just do the pony tail up really high on the top of her head, you can pull bits through and ringlet them, other than that im stumped  |
:confuse2: I wish I could do hair and make up. I got 2 girls going to homecoming.....can you say cha ching $$$$$$ :( |
Where in Maryland Do You live? and when does she needs here hair done? If it's not to late, and if you live close to McLean, I'll take care of her hair for free. I love doing updos. I work in Dolce Vita Salon & Spa, so let me know if You still need help. |
I've been a hairdresser for many years and raised 2 daughters. You might suggest to your daughter with her build and a sleek dress, if she has a big hair do high on her head it will take away from her face, dress, and body. A really big intricate up do really isn't in style now either. I've done a lot of hair up in my carrier and have done the big styles with lots of curls ,but it takes alot of hairspray to hold it. You might use a jell for body and Got2beGlued 2 or max will hold anything. I would take her to a hair dresser and let them work it out. |

I think I'll try that one myself! :) |

UMMMMMMMM CHA CHING:eek:   You aren't whistling dixie there. WE found a drop dead georgeous dress for $425 dollars...UMMM NOT:p I had to make her take it off and get the REASONABLE one:( It was really weird because when she had it on ... she came out and I SWEAR. all heads in the store were turning and pople were STARING saying how beautiful she was. She looked like she should have been walking down the red carpet at the Oscars or something:eek: . It was really hard having to watch her get the cheapy dress after that. I felt like such a loser for a Mom:( No way I am letting her get her hair done at the shop. They charge 45 dollars just to put it in an UPDO. |
I know what you mean about the dress. Last year my oldest one wanted this $250 one that was gorgeous and she looked so beautiful in it. I just couldn't swing it. She was so hurt but she tried so hard to not let me know. I felt like such a loser for not being able to get it for her. |

Yeah.. I told her someting sleek would look better .. but I'm the "MOM" so of course I don't know anything:p Now she would NEVER where something sleek because I suggested it:rolleyes: |

" soft sculpting gel" ... put it in her hair and comb it with wide tooth comb...then difuzze it with a hair dryer with difuzzer attachment... keep scrunching her hair while drying it, with a motion that reminds me with squizeeng a sponge.... dry her hair 100% and make sure that the hair is soft not crunchee. then you can pin her hair up in loose waves with bobbi pins, or for more volume you can tease her crown area and put it in high pony tail ( this will be your base to work off)... <only the small circle on top off her head should be teased>... then pin up the reminded hair to the teased base with bobbi pins in loose and messy maner... plus that the most popular updos this season are "the messier, the better"... make sure that while you tease the base of her hair, you don't comb thru the ends in order to not loose the curl you got... but if you loose any of the curl You can always go back ,after you already put it in pony tail, and touch it up with curling iron... Good luck with it!!! if you need some more help, let me know. It'll be easier to help you if at least I saw pictures of her hair. But I'm sure that You'll be OK. JUst dont rush , and don't try to be too perfect with it... It works every time... |
2 Attachment(s) here are few examples of what i'm talking about. |
I have had quite a few up-do's in my day and for the most part the stylist just puts my hair in a very high pony tail, curls sections with a hot iron and takes small sections of curled pieces and pins all over top of my head with hair pins (not bobby pins). Pull some wispy pieces down around the face or one piece going to the side depending on her part and there you go! Spray the sections before you curl then spray again after pinning in place. Good luck! |
1 Attachment(s) Here's a pic of one that was done exactly like I posted above...(on the far left) The piece hanging at my forehead really got on my nerves that evening so I "twisted" it back and put in a hair pin in the front too. |
