best family dog ? 1 Attachment(s) besides yorkies what do you think (anysize) is the best family dog? just curious i think its a golden retriever i have never seen a mean golden theyre loyal gentle loving dogs with all kids animals people i would LOVE one if i didnt have allergies |
I'd kill to have a lab if my allergies would permit. |
I had a lab but he ran away. My mom is terribly allergic to dogs but she was fine with the lab...strange. |
I agree that labs make great family pets, i also think that border terriers and english sheep dogs are great too :) |
We had our male blk Lab 15 years before we had to put him to sleep - and he was the best dog I've ever seen! Honest... never, ever did he even come close to biting "anyone". He was the most gentle, loyal, loving, playful, intelligent companion anyone could ask for. We didn't get him neutered until he was 5 years old - and he did not spray in our house - ever! He would mark his territory outside, though. :D |
I do like the labs they are beautiful, we have a fox terrier. Someone left her on the church steps when she was a baby and my daughter just had to have her that was 4 years ago she stays in our yard and bark when she see or hears something, she mines really good too. stay's on 1 of my porches. |
Golden Retrievers are THE SWEETEST DOGS EVER. I love them! but I don't know if they'd be the "perfect family dog" because they don't really outgrow the puppy stage until they're about 4 y.o. and they get big. so they can get rough which could be a problem if you have kids. am I making sense? I think labs are the best family dog!!!! even just mutts are the sweetest darn things! :p |
I think the labs are gonna win on this one cause I think they are the best family dog too. We had a chocolate lab who was so sweet and gently, loved nothing more than to be loved by his family:) He brought so much joy to our lives and the boys had such a great time with him. Unfortunately, his death came way too soon:( and we miss him terribly! DH says once the boys are grown a bit more, he's gonna get another one....he says that way, he'll have HIS dog cause I have mine in Gabby and Gage:D even though he loves them too;) |
I dont know, we have a neighbor who has a Golden Retriever and they said he is not very friendly, I always thought they were great family dogs as well, and I'm sure it has a lot to do with the up bringing, I still would have one. Are Husky is a great dog, has never once growled or nipped at my kids, never nipped at Kloey and tolerates Lillies playfullness! |
Boxers make great family dogs, they are loyal, gentle, make great watchdogs, and are very loving. But again - bad for allergies |
1 Attachment(s) I was a cocker spaniel mommy for years before I discovered yorkies...so thats my choice!! Here is my dear sweet Moocho who passed away just after Christmas...this is a pic of the day I brought him home... Dawn |
The best family dog....hmmmm.... Well....besides a yorkie and a chihuahua......I'd have to say a beagle! My family had a beagle, and her name was Miata. I loved her so much!! She was so much fun to play with and never snapped at us when me and my sister were younger. Unfortunately she was put down.... :( I miss her so much. Fortunately, we got Rica, our chihuahua, a couple of months before we put Miata down, so we were able to grieve a little easier. Any dog can be a great family dog....it\'s just the way they\'re raised, I believe. |
I love german shepherd. My aunt has a few on them and there the sweetest big dog I have ever meet!!! I also like hound dog! Love the way they bark!:p But i dont see me getting one, if my hubby stays on the army. we have a 3 pet max when you travel and I already have 2 furbabys and a cat, so I am all maxed out |
I would have to say a golden retriever would be the best. They are intelligent, and have such a gentle nature. Labs are good too but they tend to be more hyper and usually don\'t grow out of it until they are atleast 3 years old. I also love cockers, they are great dogs. Just meet my Peppi and you will agree. The only thing I would worry about with them is that a child could still hurt them easily since they are not a big dog breed. I grew up with a golden and hope that I can get another one someday. Best dog we ever had, nicest and smartest dog too. She was kind to everyone and one of the qualities that I admired most about her, is that she could not stand someone being sad or crying. She would always come up to you and comfort you. She also loved children and always had such a gentle nature. Kids could pull her ears, tail, fur, poke or pinch her and she would not even bat an eye. Like I said, best dog I ever had. She died at 13 years old, about 5 years ago. I still think about her and miss her and I look forward to our happy reunion someday.:( |
