Where do you Volunteer? I want to start volunteering somewhere with lots of interaction with people. Just wondering if you are volunteering anywhere, if so where and what you do? |
Volunteer work is great, giving something back to the community is awesome! i take dogs for walks at my local animal shelter, its more interaction with dogs than humans lol :) |
Where do you Volunteer? As a former teacher I used to volunteer with the public school system when my children were in school. For the past five years I have been volunteering at a senior citizen center and helping to serve lunch to all who use the facilities. I have gotten to know lots of wonderful people and love the people I work with. This center is particularly active and caters to the people so much that they are very spoiled. I help out at least once a week and sometimes twice a week when there is a special event. I look forward to going each week and seeing all of my friends as well as giving of myself to others. |
Way to go to those that volunteer! :good job: I have been thinking of taking Bear to vist the elderly in the old age homes. I saw on the news that they are looking for people to do that. Bear has a wonderful temperament and loves everyone. The only problem is my hubby is often out of town for long periods and we never know when and how long he is away. This makes it hard to plan when Bear and I could go. |
I used to volunteer in this Ambassador program for the Chinese Chamber of Commerce. After 3 years I decided it was time for me to retire :) |
I used to volunteer at a "school" that was similar to an orphanage. These were children who were removed from their homes for one reason or another. I took the child out places for lunch, picnics, zoo, etc. Pretty much like a "big sister". I also volunteered for the Older Residence program where I drove sr. citizens to doctors, shopping, any place they needed to go. I also did grocery shopping and banking and all tasks for the ones that could not get out to do things for themselves. Currently I volunteer for a crisis nursery 2 days a week. I basically "play" with toddlers and babies. These are children who are at "risk" if they remain in the family home and are in temporary shelter. I am also going to start volunteering for a children's pediatric hospital this week and I am SO EXCITED to start. I would love to volunteer helping animals, but I don't know if I can squeeze anything more into my schedlue right now. Volunteering is great. Someone out there needs you! If you don't already, please consider volunteering! |
Breeze: My husband and I take our two Yorkies to the nursing home where his brother is recovering from an accident. These guys (Daisy and Teddy Bear) are not certified therapy dogs or anything close to that. In fact, I don't think they would ever be real therapy dogs because Daisy is a little hyper and Teddy Bear is scared of his own shadow. Neither are good candidates for therapy dogs. But we just take them in to visit and everyone stops us when we are in the halls and ask to pet them. It brightens their day so much and to see their smiles is priceless. Daisy and Teddy get restless after only a few minutes so I take them outside and wait for hubby. The residents who are outside come over to pet the dogs. You will love seeing how happy you will make these people who don't have much excitement going on in their lives! |
