What are you Reading? I am trying to finish "The Bad Place" by Dean Koontz and I am having a really hard time getting into this story. I was wondering what others are reading and can you recommend a really good book? |
My favorite book of ALL TIME is East of Eden by John Steinbeck. It is a classic. He is such a vivid storyteller. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone interested in a great story. The first chapter is rather tough to get through, but please don't judge the whole book by the first chapter. Almost the entire first chapter is imagery. But, get pasts the first chapter and into the heart of the story, and it is definately a page-turner.   I am about to start reading A Million Little Pieces. I know it is not entirely "true" like the author made it out to be, but my sister-in-law is currently reading it and she can't put it down. She said it is incredible. I can't wait to read it!   |
devoted to Lucy! Depends on what kind of stuff you like to read. I like anything by Nora Roberts, Karin Slaughter, If you want something true AND that'll scare you silly, read "In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote. |
Right now I am starting to read Ricochet by Sandra Brown. She is a fantastic writer and I would recommend most of her books. I am also on book 12 of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. It is called Twelve Sharp. I would recommend you read all of them they are funny and entertaining. |
I love the books by Maggie Shayne, the series of "The Texas Brands" but right now I just started "The Love Letter" by Cathleen Schine. I also read 2 books last week by Julian Hart, it's a series about The McKaslin Sisters. I love reading, almost as much as YT!!! |
i'm reading all the books in the vampire series by Anne Rice. I've already read Interview with the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat. Now i'm reading the rest, and then i'm gonna go read all her other books. i love how she writes |
i just finished reading Lolita by Vladamir Nabokov. It's a crazy book!! |
I just finished Your Big Break. It was very easy and fun to read. I only read for entertainment and mainly chick lit. Some authors/books I've loved: Sophie Kinsella(Shopaholic Series) Jodi Picoult(The Pact, My Sisters Keeper...all her books are great) Phillipa Gregory The Time Travelers Wife Memoirs Of A Geisha Something Borrowed Something Blue Devil Wears Prada Nanny Diaries Mr. Maybe My shelf in the closet is PACKED with books. I'd have to go through it if you were looking for more serious reading suggestions. I LOVE reading, it's so much better than watching t.v. |
Ok, this is probably not what you were looking for. But I am trying to read The New Complete Yorkshire Terrier by Joan B. Gordon. Now it will probably take my a good year to complete it. Reading puts me right to sleep, I am lucky to make it through a paragraph before I am out like a light. Typically my husband reads to me at night. Works great then I just ask him what happened and that way I can get through a book way quicker. I must admit he does pick the reading material. I figured I would be pushing my luck if I asked him to read this book to me at night :p |
If you havent read "MARLEY AND ME" go out and BUY IT!! It is a dog biography that will make you laugh out loud and cry like a baby!! I forget who wote it as my mom fell in love with it and is passing it around her circle of friends atm...also heard it is being made into a movie. There is also a website and a forum if you do a search...AWESOME BOOK..on my all time favorite list...man I have to get that book back!! Has anyone read The Gift of Jazzy? Its about a yorkshire terrier falling into the arms of a widow?? Dawn |

I'm currently reading Twice Kissed by Lisa Jackson....about halfway through it and it is wonderful! My fav authors are Lisa Jackson, Sandra Brown, Erica Spindler, Dean Koontz, and Patricia Cornwell. |
My favorite of all time is The Fountainhead by Ann Rand. Not a light read but it really made me reevaluate my own values and the way they are formed. Great, great book! I actually read A LOT! 2-3 books a week. I really like Dean Koonz so sorry to hear you're not liking it much. I read a lot of Florida authors. Anything by Carl Hiassan or Tim Dorsy will have you laughing out loud. Right this minute I'm reading (FL author) James W. Hall's Hard Aground. He writes mysteries and they're always good fast reads. WHen I'm really in a vapid mood I love Sophie Kinsella. She writes hillarious books about women that are super fast reads. Even if you don't love reading, if you are a girly girl you'll love her. Had to edit to include one of my very favorite FL authors who I forgot- Randy Wayne White |

I'm usually reading two books at a time, at least... Currently, my "downstairs" book is Time and Chanceby Sharon Kay Penman (I really like her!) and my "upstairs book" is Plum Island by Nelson DeMille. Then of course, there's the audio book in my car...it's something by Mary Higgins Clark this week  I read a lot of different types of books, whatever catches my eye... BTW, I've returned to school (my second semester back starts next week) and I'll be taking 21 credits this fall, don't think I'll be reading much but text books then!:) Wonder if I'll find time to read YT???? |

And SB is great. She's a Texan, and writes about Texas a lot, so I can relate to a lot of the places in her books. (And they're great stories!) |
I'm reading Wicked by Gregory Maguire (the one that was turned into a Broadway show). To be honest, I'm having trouble getting into it. I'd heard how great it is, but I'm not as into it as I thought I'd be. But it's ok. |
Thanks for your suggestions. I love "East of Eden" also, it's one of my favorite books. I read some of Oprah's book club books and really liked Anita Shreve books, and White Oleander. I like Dean Koontz and Anne Rice too. I also like to read anything I can get my hands on about Yorkies and dogs. I will be heading to the library to try out some of your suggestions. Thanks!!!! |

My Bible is always at hand, of course, but I'm currently doing some research so I'm reading Hearts and Hands...it's a book about women, quilts and American Society...by Elaine Hedges, Pat Ferrero and Julie Silber...it's very interesting. After that it will probably be Vintage Quilts, Identifying, Collecting, Dating, Preserving and Valuing by Bobbie Aug, Sharon Newman and Gerald Roy. I know...not too interesting to some but antique quilts are my passion so I read everything I can get my hands on. Funny...I can't watch reruns but I can read my quilt books over and over. |
