Nevada Number of fires: 5 Acres: 232,336 New fires: 1 Fires contained: 1 East Humboldt (Elko Field Office, Bureau of Land Management): 7,600 acres at 60 percent contained. This fire is 10 miles east of Elko in sagebrush, grass and juniper. Residences, communication and television towers are threatened. Difficult access is hampering containment efforts. NEW 305 (Battle Mountain Field Office, Bureau of Land Management): 5,000 acres at 85 percent contained. This fire is five miles south of Battle Mountain. Residences are threatened and Highway 305 is closed. Wind driven fire runs and extreme fire behavior were observed. Burning Chair (Nevada Division of Forestry, Northern Region): The fire was contained at 410 acres. Snow Canyon (Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest): 22,319 acres at 80 percent contained. This fire is 65 miles north of Elko in sagebrush, grass and aspen. Residences, grazing allotments, and livestock are threatened. Fire runs were reported. Charleston Complex (Elko Field Office, Bureau of Land Management): 190,421 acres at 95 percent contained. This fire is 55 miles north of Elko in sagebrush, juniper and grass. Minimal fire behavior with interior smoldering was reported. The fire is estimated to reach containment today.
