Holy Cow - What is going on ? I HAVE to ask in case someone knows why this is happening - Today I noticed my hair has grown like 4" longer .....this is WEIRD because I have curly hair and this last year it's been falling out like crazy - I was worried about it but because it's thinner - but way longer....Why would this happen ? I LOVE it - it's finally grown to my shoulder blades but you can't tell cause it's so freaking curly. I still look like I wear a wig lol :p Anyone have any tips for growing hair even Longer ? I've always wanted really really long hair - that won't happen but I'm up for suggestions |
any special vitamins you are taking? Or different eating habits? |

Villette maybe it is a hormone thing. I know we are close in age, I've been experiencing the hair loss too, along with other wonderful  age appropriate problems. My doctor says it is the changing hormone levels. I answered isn't that your diagnosis for everything with me? LOL For 20 years now. I hate to admit it but I think he may be right, OMG. I swear my husband and I are having a race to see who goes bald first. I afraid I may be winning.:D |

LOLOL !! You all hit it right on Target - Hormones are FLATLINED - (doctors actual words) and this is why I'm wondering about this. I have the kind of hair that does NOT grow - (it's been down my back once - and after that cut - it never did grow again like that) My hair usually grows TALLER LOL I kid you not !! Now it's really long in the back - but going straight in the front - and I was worried about that BALD thing too - I rake out HUGE handfulls of hair every day - it's even all over my clothes now - it's GROSS ! So why would hair be falling out - but growing double/triple in length in just a few months ? Brenda - I lose 100 hairs every time I touch my head |

Brenda - I'm really considering it - it's falling out ALL over thank God and not just in one place....but it sure is weird. Not that I don't already have weird hair to begin with - I've never seen a white woman with quite this kind of hair. lol - I HATE IT - but longer is GOOD !! I could even braid it now ....but it would look like a rat tail compared to the rest of my head :D |
My hair is normally very curly (kinky even), this past year the hair in front has began to straighten on it's own. It baffles me bc it has always been just as curyly as the rest of my head. I can't get it to take curl with out alot of effort now. I may try the Rogaine, thanks for the tip Brenda. I would love to just keep what I have at this point, lol. Villette mine goes thru periods of falling out like you described and then it goes back to a more normal loss pattern for awhile. |

I have no clue for why your hair has grown except maybe diet related as others have posted. It could be hormonal or it could be thyroid related. A friend of mine started losing more hair than normal several years ago and her doctor checked her thyroid level - outta "whack", put her on meds, and her hair stopped falling out in the "big clumps" (her words, not mine!) it had been. Hope you find the answer soon! |

Villette...aren't you on a new eating program and drinking more water? That's all it is...you're watering it too much! All kidding aside...a few years ago I grew my hair to my waist, I was taking a super vitamin for women and a hair/skin/nails supplement and my hair seemed to grow overnight. I also noticed hair all over the place and asked my beautician what was up, she said my hair was just fine but when it grows longer you notice the hair on your clothes, floor, contertop, sink etc...more than you do when it's short. It actually made sense...shorter hairs are harder to see. I'll warn you about this though...when your hair is long and you raise your arm it will get caught in your armpit...that used to bug the crap out of me! |
:2omg: V!! I just thought of something!! You have changed your diet right? I had gone on the diet workshop diet about 10 years ago...I lost 67 lbs (gained back half of it... ) anyway....I was losing hair at that time...My Mom even told me that my hair looked thinner....I'm sure your diet has something to do with it.. |
Being a few years into menopause, my thick hair just keeps getting frizzier, no hair loss although I could use a little. I know when my dtr was younger her hair was real frizzy and she had this under layer that was tight rows of dark wavy hair and her top layer was silkier blonde. My hair dresser said that it wiukd change at puberty, which it did, that under layer changed to straighter blonde hair. She also said it could change again at menopause. So hormones, or lack off definately can change hair texture and growth. |
V, if you can stand it, drink Apple Vingar. I think it's 1 part vingar 7 parts water My sister has really long hair, and very strong nails. She said it was because of the vingar she drinks. She's 48, her hair was falling out too. A friend told her about the vingar, and her hair is way past her butt now, and her nails are so super strong. I told you some time ago my hair falls out from stress. I was going to drink the vingar, but couldn't get it down. You should give it a try, it really worked for her.:hearts-xx |
Well every 7 years you get "new" hair. It could be a completely different texture. It will fall out and the "new" hair could be thinner, thicker, shinier, ect. If you exercise, it stimulates hair and growth because it gets the blood flowing. My hairdresser told me that! Also, get the split ends cut off to prevent breakage. You need healthy hair to get it long! |
Hi V well i'm gonna put my experiance in here i to am looseing my hair also. I am 25 yrs old and i used to have thick hair almost down to my butt But i am a high stress person and my doctor told me that stress is one of the most common reason for hair loss in women and i know that you are stressed out with all that is going on in your life so this might also have something to do with it. also my hair does go through a spurt of growth sometimes just like this also the hormones was a great reply also my hair loss did start after i had my first child i had a severe dip in hormones and never really recovered from it. my hair comes out by the hand fulls too |

Vitamins are very important. I take GNC mega womens multivitamins and my hair and nails grow fast. |
Menopause can make your hair fall out and what Amber Iv said is true to. I have been going thru menopause for 6 years and my other illness has alot of stress I had bald spot in diff places on my head from stress it took a long time to grow back once I was on all the right meds. Good luck V and try a flat iron on you hair it will take those curls right out.Oh guys I,m only 38.when this happen I was in my eartly 30's |
My hair is very curly. I've started keeping it cut shorter over the last year just right above the neck line. It use to be thicker over the last few years it has gotten thinner. It's herederity(sp) in my family my grandmother's was like that and so is my mom's. I'm really considering starting the rogaine as well I'm only 41 and I don't want it to get any thinner. |
I believe a lot about the moon and tides and such. I get my hair cut or tidied up every 4-5 weeks. I make sure I never get it cut on a new moon. It grows so fast that it needs cut a week or so sooner. When was the last time it was cut or trimmed...was it a new moon? |
devoted to Lucy! Stress can also make your hair fall out. But I lean toward the hormone thing. I had a hysterectomy my hair, which has always had lots of body, became straighter and grows faster. My Mother's a retired hairdresser and she told me that she sees this a lot with hormone changes. Kim & Lucy:aimeeyork |
Have you been on any new medications? I know my hair started to think out because of a couple meds I was taking. It all came back thicker again once I was off the meds. |
Hair I would guess that the hair loss is hormonal and for the speeded up growing longer, I remember reading somewhere that your hair grows faster in the summer. Don't know why. If it said, I've forgotten. :) |
I dont wanna lose my hair but I sure wish it would grow that fast!! |
Hi Villette! Have your talked to your doctor? I bet it is a combination of many factors! #1 your hormone levels #2 your diet change #3 being summertime #4 your new pills (if you are taking them) or any other meds you might be on #5 your thyroid and #6 stress....so pretty much, what most everyone else has said. I would definitely talk to your doctor. I know when my thyroid was acting up (well, underactive), my hair had chnaged a lot! My hair is LONG - past the middle of my back and THICK! It started to fall out (I mean, I swear, I had a Mojo size wad of hair every time I brushed it or in the shower drain!) and it got frizzy and brittle. A simple blood test should determine if it is your thyroid - well, in my case (you know, some people are just out of whack - that's me!!! hee, hee), they did numerous blood tests, CatScan, thyroid imagines, and drawing fluid out before it was determined. Crazy huh? Plus, I know when my doctor first talked to me about diet and diet pills, they all had various side effects....many regarding noticable changes (like changes in hair, nails, moods, etc). Oh, one last night......since my hair is super long and super thick - the summer months are usually spent in buns, braids, pony-tails, etc. Not all the time, but I bet 98% of my summer is spent this way. This is BAD on my hair because it breaks (no matter what products I use in it) and it falls out - big time. I notice that in the winter, I still loose hair, but nothing like I do in the summer months. Hope this helps! Good luck! How are you doing on your diet? Any more weight lose? I won't even go into my details! hee,hee |
