Oh, I'm sure there are lots of dangers. Coyotes (although my yard has a privacy fence the whole way around it) hawks, ticks... But what I worry about most are the big buses that drive down our street several times each day. I'm afraid one goes by just as Ginger takes off out of the fence or out the door. Whenever I'm walking her (on lead) she can barely contain herself when a bus goes by. |

Regarding the owls and hawks.....I have never seen this, but since we are outdoor people and Mojo is with us for just about everything, our vet told us to watch for the prey birds (Eagles, Hawks, Owls). Since we have them all, we keep an eye out. We just watched two baby hawks learn to fly about a month ago, course, you normally hear their calls before you see them. Maybe, they look at a little dog like they do a rabbit or something...I don't know, and I don't want to find out! (that's for sure) |
Sorry, I posted before I read all the other posts.....oops....I don't get a chance to get on YT often, (sad and sorry, I know). Please forgive me! |
I forgot about the wildcats (bobcats and mountain cats). At our old house, our neighbor had pit bulls (they were actually a nicer version of the dogs), but a wild cat (black) killed them, all! It got his goats first and he thought it was a bear, but the game warden said it looked to be a cat. Then a few nights later, it got two of the pit bulls. Then a few weeks later, it got the other two. The game warden said that the only time you can shot one is when you see it actually attack her animals....I would be shooting before it got close, if it had already killed several of my animals. This new place (been year for a while now), when we first bought the land and was working on clearing it for our house, we stayed in our RV, but we were outside around the camp fire one night and heard the wildcat "scream", boy, we were all inside so fast! If you have never heard one, it just sends shivers straight through you! BUT....we haven't seen or heard one in a long time....that doesn't mean they are not out there! |
We have coyotes, black widow spiders, hawks and wasps. Close encounter (not me) but there was an article in the paper where a hawk took a little poodle and few away, the dog was on a leash but the woman walking the dog didn't have a strong grasp and the hawk took him. |
