oh yes, "thank god for america": http://www.snopes.com/katrina/photos/dogrescue.asp http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/4025/wrong2ta9.jpg http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/429...ansjpegjm3.jpg seriously, the comments made in this thread have been ludicris and simply ignorant. of course i don't condone these actions and think the whole thing is sick. however, if you want to judge an entire country based on the actions of some sick goverment officals, you may want to take a look at your own backyard before passing judgement. |
Well - I didn't comment when I first read this because the government there is FAR different than here - I disagree with most of Chinas practices regarding dogs. But I totally understand everyones comments - and they're entitled to feel just sick over this. We should be outraged. What IF that happened HERE ? It easily could - look at Mad Cow - we go slaughter thousands of healthy cows because one tests positive. The good thing is we DO vaccinate against these diseases - but many people do NOT. The law is the law ....and we all know it can be ignored by some pet owners. For China to be this drastic just shows they are far superiour in their Technology abilities than they are with their HUMANE abilities. |

I agree. I feel horrible for these animals dying but the US is NOT a perfect country either. The chinese see dogs as nothing but animals, similar to the way our farm animals such as chickens, cows, pigs, etc. American farms chain baby cows up to where they NEVER walk so that their meat is tender when the babies are killed. It's called VEAL. Isn't that inhumane as well? I have seen pigs killed in a pork factory and I would swear that some of them were still alive after they were electrocuted and slaughtered. Many other cultures consider eating pork a HORRIBLE ACT but how many of Americans have never had a hot dog or ham? It is a completely different culture that we need to understand before judging. We shouldn't evaluate their values, beliefs, and behaviors and consider the behaviors of our own culture superior. We are all ethnocentric to some degree, but we shouldn't judge another culture as a whole. We should be more mindful. The people should not be judged by what their government officials do. Do we like it when other countries judge us by what President Bush does if we visit a foreign land? An answer to this problem would be to try and help the country and try to understand why they did what they did. In their eyes they saw human life as more valuable than dogs... who do not have any rights or laws in the country. We can not change their country's beliefs through boycotting. The chinese people can't even do that themselves. They are NOT allowed to speak against their government. The government saw the act as protecting humans, especially children. Maybe if we could educate them and help provide vaccinations programs it would be an answer. I feel sorry for any of those people lost a loved pet in all of this. At the same time I have to wonder if many of them loved their dogs the same way we do or if they felt like they were more like farm animals they weren't attached to. (The chinese used to consider dogs pests as well.) |
thats bad  |

As for leaving the babies on the side of the road...I think that comment is completely unfair! They do NOT do that. This may have happened in the past but not now. Chinese people do not want to be under the rule of communism and that is why there are Thousands of illegal immigrants every year. They want to be free of that rule! It is very hard to understand unless you are living that life and I am lucky enough to be born an American Citizen but I am very proud to be Chinese. I think that it is a great idea to as Cheryl says: We can not change their country's beliefs through boycotting. The chinese people can't even do that themselves. They are NOT allowed to speak against their government. The government saw the act as protecting humans, especially children. Maybe if we could educate them and help provide vaccinations programs it would be an answer. |
