Has anyone had dermabrasion? It is more severe than microdermabrasion, but it gets rid of scarring. I have mild acne scars, and I want dem bitches gone! I hate wearing makeup everyday to cover up imperfections. I have a consultation next week. I might also just do Obagi skin care system for a while. Do y'all have any experience with either of these?? |
I did it back it first came out - (and when I had extra $$) and loved it. I went 5 times and saw a change in the texture of my skin...and it felt soooooooooooo good. |
can I use dermabrasion for severe acne scars? |
I really don't know ....I would think a chemical peel would be better as it goes deeper....my bosses daughter had one for her scars and what a huge difference it made. But it takes much longer to 'heal' and your face will probably hurt. You could call someone in the field - ask them if it would help scarring ? |
If you have the icepick scars, a collagen fill will help those, along with a chemical peel, laser peel, or dermabrasion. I am going with dermabrasion because it does not cause your skin to lighten like some chemical peels do. The best thing is to talk to your dermatologist or plastic surgeon about it. |
Well..I feel dumb - your original post says Microdermabrasion and dermabrasion - I had the micro  - that's the one with the little wand and crystals right ? I misread your post sorry !! |

I think it depends on the person . Some say it's great and others like me didn't see a DARN difference. I did BOTH when i was first getting fine lines and wanted them GONE. Chemical peel HURT LIKE %$#@ and took forever to peel . I had the ugliest brown p100 year old lady face for weeks . I was SURE it was damaged and I was STUCK that way. The dermabrasion thing also sucked for me. HURT LIKE %$#$% again and NO diffeence afterwords. What I want to know is how in the %$#$ can you literally peel your face off and STILL have the same freakin wrinkles:rolleyes: If I ever get the money up I want to do the lazer zapping thingy for SURE. I mean the big one not the tiny fake kind. I have SEEN it work as soon as they zapped a person before...It was AMAZING |
Oh yay, my specialty! I'm an esthetician. I can't do dermabrasion but it will help with scarring a lot! Be prepared for a certain amount of pain and healing time and know your doctor WELL. Dermabrasion can cause hypopigmentation (uncorrectable white spots) if your Dr. doesn't know your skin well. I am a huge fan of peels but they vary like crazy- % of acid (is it lactic, glycolic, etc.) what is the ph? Is it buffered? Some will make a huge difference with little discomfort, some will sting, some do very little. Don't base all peels on one experience. Obagi is a great but very aggressive line that will provide amazing results with some side effects and discomfort at the beginning. I tend to ramble but I'd be happy to answer any questions you have if I can.:) Oops, had to edit to say- microdermabrasion and dermabrasion are very different. I think in most cases the right peel is superior to microdermabasion but neither compare to dermabrasion. |
