Urgent Question!!! Has anyone ever worked a job one day then quit?? What did you say as your excuse?? |
Yes I have.. but when I was 17 - a landscaping job which resulted in me getting poison sumac and poison ivy all over both of my arms (completely covered, I had to go to the hospital for drugs!) two weeks before my PROM!!! Anyways.. I don't think this is the kind of thing you're speaking of.... There have been times where I've started a job and on the first day had feelings of "Oh crap, what am I doing, I can't do this", or thought the job was really boring or not suited to me. BUT, after one day, it's hard to tell if a job is really for you - I think it's always good to at least give it a week. But if you want to quit your job, just do it in a professional manner - they'll appreciate your honesty and the sooner you let them know, the sooner they can get someone else into that position - also saves them putting in time training you, then having you quit and have to train someone else. If you're that unhappy - quit - but make sure you are REALLY SURE! Life is too short to be stuck in a job you dont enjoy but finding a new job is also the worst job in the world! |
hmmm, well if i can remember that far back, i just said i got a better paying job.. thats all , its your life, you owe no one an explanation... |

better yet kristy, be honest and say, this job is not for me... plain english |
My daughter started a job a few years back and only worked one day. It was in a burger place and it was so dirty and the people were VERY unfriendly that she couldn't face the thought of going back. I think that she called in and told them that she wouldn't be coming back. Don't feel bad that you didn't like the job, at least you tried. Just let them know that the job just isn't what you're looking for. |

Some jobs take a few weeks to adjust to - and then there are those awful jobs that you just hate. I had one...it NEVER got better - I lasted 4 months. |
I agree with everyone , I have been there, just let them know its not for you but thank you for the oppotunity.... thats it.... |
No. This was awful. Dirty and disgusting. I hated it. I cried. |

i was hired for a certain alarm company for sales Not what i went in for the totally did me over, anyways i was the only girl in a van full of guys, giving vulgar, hand jesters to women that drove by, we had the police chasing us because we went to houses with "no solicting" on the doors and then the police were after us because they didnt have permission to sell in certain counties, we walked and knocked on doors from 5-10pm i was so digusted that i just didnt show up or call, i think i was 17 at the time...so do what you feel is necessary and dont worry about them or what they think they will find someone else and you will find something better |
I had a job once counting recalled pills. I applied for an admin job when I was in college, and they hired me put me in the back to count frickin' pills (oh sorry I digress). So I did have a job for oneday, and I told them it wasn't going to work, thanks and good luck finding someone new. Don't worry or feel bad another door will open with something better;) |

I used to be a bartender and got a job in an American Legion or Elks...can't remember which one. Well, it was dead and I didn't like it, so I told them sorry, but it was too far of a commute. It was further than I expected, but if it was a great opportunity I would have stayed. Why? What's the matter? :( |

Kristy, I am so bummed for you, hon! I know you were excited to get this job. Must be it just wasn\'t what you thought it was going to be, eh? Just go. If you KNOW for certain it is not for you, tell them and leave. Although I have never done this, in my management positions I have hired people who did quit the first day. I encourage people who have the courage to do this and not waste my time training them only to have them go two weeks later. Don\'t waste your time either! Just say "sorry, it\'s not for me" and split the scene, babe! |
