Going to... Hey everyone. You may remember my telling you that my husband is going to Turkey for 15 months with the Air Force in July. Well, we got our follow-on assignment and it is HAWAII! When my husband gets back from Turkey, that's where we will be moving! We will be there for at least four years. They have a quarenteen to bring the girls in, but it looks like if I have my ducks in a row, I may be able to pick them right up at the Air Port. I'm pretty sure they are both small enough to go with us on the plane (I hope) -- I'm scared of putting Sandy in cargo because of her health problems. I need to call the vet and see which shots Sandy had last year and this makes the decision on Tia's rabies vaccine which she has to have to go to Hawaii. Also, I'd like to hear the vets' thoughts on Sandy's flying (and yours if you have any) Anyway, we've been celebrating and planning so I'm sorry if I've missed anyones' pictures or problems. Also, if you could put in a little prayer that I can keep my house while my husband is away I would really appreciate it. The Air Force is now saying that I can't keep my house because it is possible for my family to go with my husband to Turkey (2 kids and 2 dogs in a hazardous duty zone? I don't think so) -- we are trying to pull some strings and everything, but your prayers would be appreciated as well. SO! In 2 years, we'll be tan and pretty in Hawaii! I wonder if they have any dog shows there? Lots to research! :) Here is where they have the info on the quarenteen, just FYI. |
sounds like your really excited to get to hawaii. i'm not a big traveler (had a bad experience on an airplane and swore them off). i do hope you get to keep your house. just from what i know it doesn't sound like turkey is the safest place to raise a family. but i'm sure it will all work itself out in the end. in the meantime i'll say a little prayer for you and your family. sorry i don't have any advice on you babies flying. |
How exciting. Hawaii is beautiful! |
Aimee .... How wonderful!!! I have a neice who lives there ... husband is in service. Funny thing is, that's where she was born ... lives just down the street from where her Mom & Dad lived when she was born!!! ;) |
Yes! How wonderful! I'd love to go to Hawaii! i've heard beautiful stories about how beautiful the scenery is! i want to goooo! |
Well, you are ALL welcome to come visit! ;) (here too!) |
Aimee - What news today!!! Sounds like you have big changes ahead and you will always remain in Schatzie's and mine thoughts during all of this!! Hawaii sounds beautiful - just remember to get hooked up to the Internet ASAP so you can keep in touch with all of us here at YT. |
WOW...it sounds so cool (living and Hawaii). I hope you guys can stay here for now while your husband is in Turkey, i'll pray that the time goes by fast :) Also, about flying, Mojo came from Brazil and i recently sent my chihuahua mix to brazil also (both cargo) Just check with your vet first..if possible, do take them with you in the cabin... |
Wow, that's great news!! You better be careful, or you might have some yorkietalk-ers hunting you down in Hawaii!! haha! I'm glad, you and your family will definitely deserve such a nice place to live after your husband's time in Turkey! |
That's WONDERFUL NEWS, aimee! :) But we'll all be pulling for you to keep your current house, Turkey doesn't exactly sound like a place for a military family to stay. Hawaii sounds wonderful, too bad the quarantine would keep us YTers from bringing our Yorkies with us to visit y'all! |
I was reading on that quaratine info you linked to and have a question... Does this mean that Sandy & Tia will be in qurantine for 120 days when moving over there? Or am I reading it wrong? |
No, unless I am totally unprepared they AT THE MOST should be there for 5 days. I'm hoping to be able to pick them up from the airport: To do this, this is what they say:

My pet has been vaccinated at least twice for rabies in its lifetime.
The vaccines were administered more than 90 days apart.
The most recent vaccination was done:not more than 12 months prior to my pet’s date of arrival in Hawaii for 1-year rabies vaccine or, not less than 90 days prior to the date of arrival in Hawaii.
The date and type of vaccine must be indicated on the pet’s vaccination and health certificates.
My dog or cat has an electronic microchip implanted
OIE-FAVN RABIES BLOOD TEST
I understand that if my pet has not completed the 120-day waiting period before arriving in Hawaii my pet will not qualify for either direct airport release or the 5-day-or-less quarantine program.
http://www.hawaiiag.org/AQS/aqs-checklist-5.pdf (that's the checklist) http://www.hawaiiag.org/hdoa/ai_aqs_faq5.htm here's the faq for the 5 day or less program |
Wow, we're jealous! Oh wow! That will be a great reward! I am excited for you. Can Eli and I (and Sully and Penny) come join you guys? LOL! |

Absolutely!! We'll love to have any company that comes our way! (here in CA too - we have some lovely beaches very close to our base!) |
can they just make you give up youre home like that  how terrible :( |
Yup - isn't that crap? I would basically have to move either: to Turkey, onto Hawaii (without any help with my husband, and the dogs? They would have to probably stay here with a friend until the rabies vaccine went through, which I don't think I could handle), onto the "economy" (which means I would get a place in town). Everything but the moves to Turkey or Hawaii would be paid for by ME. What makes me crazy is that it would be cheaper for the air force to keep us here then to move all of our things to Turkey, THEN move them to Hawaii. It doesn't make any sense. Things are looking up though. Because I am in pool physical therapy for my hip I will probably be able to stay since that, most likely, isn't available in Turkey (the women of AF people have to give birth in German hospitals because of the high threat to Americans in Turkish medical buildings) -- so, I have my fingers crossed. I should know for sure what is happening in the next few weeks. BLAH! ;) |
StATIONED @ PEARL HARBOR Hi AIMEE!! My husband and I were stationed there and LOVED it!!! You will come back to the mainland with so many great stories. I actually feel Hawaii is where my heart belongs now. We were there for 3 years and I cant say enough good things about the locals there. I did have my cocker spaniel when we went..I didnt have as much notice as you and even though he was upto date on everything he was quarentined fot the 5 MONTHS    we visited him everyday we could and brought him his favorites ,but I cried everytime we left him. The quaurentine is a kennel outside with rows of like kennels behind a gate ..you open it up and you can visit with your dog ..( there is a bench inside) we played with him and gave him love through out. He was a big furball by the time he came home..needed to be groomed..but other than that he was just fine. Since you have so much time just be sure your girls have EVERYTHING done the way they want it. We were stationed at Pearl Harbor and we could have waited for the new housing ..but we decided on a EWA beach housing which was the name of the complex was Iriquois Navy Housing. It was a house !! 4 bedrooms ..we only have a 1 child so we had 2 extra rooms. :D :D I could go on and on about how great it was there..cant ya tell I miss it. You will love it ..everyone had told me the schools were horrible..but we found that to be not so true..my son LOVED his school and the teachers.. I'm so excited for you!! |
How cool! It's so great to talk to people who have been there! My sister and brother-in-law were also at Pearl Harbor, I spent a summer with them when I was in 4th grade and LOVED it! We'll be at Hickam, which isn't too far from the harbor, I'm told. I'm so glad you guys had a great time! I know that we will love it! |
congrats on the new assignment in HAWAII quick question, what are Sandy's health conditions? i will definitely say a prayer---it really does work! take care and good luck w/ everything! |
Sandy has quite a few health problems. The biggest thing I am worried about is she has what I like to call a "nervous condition" - when she gets scared, nervous, or sick, her fur starts falling out in clumps. She also has a bad leg (won't walk on it) and the beginnings of cataracts - nothing major major, but enough to where I worry about putting her through any kind of stress. Thank you for your prayers - I really appreciate them! |
BIG changes coming up... keep the wine chilled for us alohaaaaaa its very exciting yet stressful too..... ill keep u and urs in our thoughts, im sure u can take Sandy in the plane with u, i think she ll be ok if shes with u and not in cargo... keep us posted :) |
Wow Aimee, or should I say "Aloha?" You must be so excited! I've never been to Hawaii, but would love to some day! I am happy for you! I hope this great news helps you get through the time your husband is away! What a new experience you will be having. Have you ever been there before? As far as your house...I thought the military was so family oriented! That is terrible if they are saying you can't stay put where you are and I will be praying that you can stay! Best wishes...you lucky ducky! |
That is so exciting! I read the website you posted, but I still don't really understand the quarantine process. Anyone want to explain? |
