How do you...... tell a friend that you don't think a Yorkie is good for them? I have a friend that honestly doesn't take care of her kids let alone a dog, and she keeps asking me about Yorkie breeders. Her kids live with her at her parents but she is rarely ever there and leaves her parents to do most of the work. I try to change the subject when she asks but what I really want to tell her is......she needs to take better care of her kids before she gets a dog. Am I terrible for wanting to say that to her? |

Thanks it's very sad when I talk to her and ask her where the kids are and they are NEVER with her. I know Georgie is like a baby and I would never want a Yorkie (or any dog for that matter) to not have the love and affention they deserve. |
Some people just don't know how much attention kids & yorkies need...:) |

I agree - some people are always going to be clueless. Let your friend know that adding a Yorkie is like adding a baby to the family. Only a baby that will always be a baby - look to you for attention, want to be cuddled and not left alone, possibly need help gettin gon and off things, being watched closely for health and injury, etc. If she pawns her children off on her parents, just let her know that these are not dogs that do well being left alone. They want and deserve to be a part of the family. Maybe that will be enough to dissuade her. Good luck! |
I agree with everyone else, you have to very honest with her. You could also try letting her read some of the posts from YT, just to see how committed we are to our precious babies, and the time and money it takes to properly care for a Yorkie. |
Well her parents probably would not allow it anyway. But you need to tell her that yorkies are more work than kids, and require constant supervision, and probably isn't the best choice for someone with small children. Also sounds like she could probably not afford one anyway, if she can't afford her own place. Tell her they are expensive to care for. |

That is a good point about not being able to afford a Yorkie and in our initial conversation she told me that she lost her job:eek: I said well don't you think you have other things to think about than getting a dog? Her response was I am working on getting another job:rolleyes: Some people are very out of touch with reality and one of those people happens to be my friend of 12 years! |
