Just some yammering.... My friend Ritchie came up to me yesterday saying that his Fiance was wanting to get a yorkie and was wondering where I got mine. He said they went to a couple of pet shops but there was none in my area. I told him the bad news on pet shops and yada yada... But this has gotten me thinking.... Before coming to this site I had never know the bad side of pet shops. My family has always bought animals from pet shops and never even had the thought of where these animals come from. Thinking about that now makes me wonder why we never put the two together. There are so many people out there that are probly as ablivious as I was when it comes to purchasing animals. It's really sad to think that there are people out there buying from pet stores right now and the pet stores calling a pupy mill to have them send over another dog to replace the one that was just sold... Why is this not widly known, or is it and I was just a little slow in learning? I love that I have come to this site. I love that now I can at least help my friends and family when it comes to purchasing a dog. So they know what to ask and know the difference between a good breeder and a backyard breeder. OK enough yammering....... I'm just sitting here at work bored Crystal |
thanks for sharing....im bored toooooooooooooooooo:) |
I know EXACTLY what you mean! I thought I bought Baby at a "reputable" pet shop! :lol tears :lol tears :lol tears |
It's so sad... Oscar is from a wonderful breeder and my family has always gotten our dogs from breeders - it has never occurred to me to do otherwise. Everytime I go into Petsmart at the local mall and see all the dogs and the VARIETY of breeds, I can't help but feel sorry for the poor things. A lot of people I think are like me and feel sorry for them and want to buy them to 'save them' - it's a catch 22 really - you purchase a dog, thus supporting puppy mills, and that dog is replaced with another dog - the cycle just goes on and on. I found this website... it's so angering... http://www.stoppuppymills.org/index.html |
idk! we got tila at the pet store we haven't had many problems with her just a cough when we first got her (we know for a FACT it's there fault, because when we were at the vet again we saw people who had just gotten a pup recently at the pet store and their dog had the same problem) besides that Tila's been really healthy (small dogs have health problems anyways :() |

I didn't know all the things either until I came here. My fiance' knows a women that wants a Yorkie so she sent me an email and the subject line was "teacup" well before I came here I didn't know that word wasn't good. I sent her a long long email about what to beware of and told her that I wasn't trying to scare her but I felt it's important to tell her what she needs to watch for i.e. pet stores, puppy mills, breeders that advertise the dreaded word "teacup." I also told her about YT, and that there are so many people on her that are extremely knowledgeable. I am so glad I found YT it's made my worry a lot less, and understand my Georgie a lot better:D |
I went to the website that was suggested. Did anyone happen to see the pet store challenge?? Has anyone tried it?? I think I am going to go give it a try and see what I can come up with. It is a great idea!! |
