I am all for it

I just did some research on this law and I had no idea that this was such an issue for people. Apparently there is a movement of ferret lovers to have them as pets here in California. I love all animals and I would never want to ban any animal that was not dangerous to people or the environment. I read several articles debating the ownership of ferrets and I am not sure what to believe. All I know is, there is no reason to introduce something into this environment that may harm it.
I have only been around one in my life. A neighbor, in college had one. That ferret escaped several times. He was smelly and quite frankly a little scary.
California has this law in place whether for appropriate or inappropriate reasons. I am sure that if enough people wanted to make it legal, there would be something done about it. I guess it is a non issue to most of us. As it stands, it is illegal to own one and I think that people should abide by the law.
You are lucky you don't live in California. I am sure there are a lot of laws, that you would disagree with, but the voters here have their own opinions.

I don't own any ferrets and personally don't care for them. I personally think that people should be able to own them if they want them and can care for them. What's next? The goverment is going to start telling us that we can only have x amount of children per household. They are going to tell us when we can have those children and how to raise those children. I thought that my husband was fighting for our freedom. But then again this is a state that called school off because of a blizzard that the snow was melting as fast as it hit the ground. I was there when they did it and I knew then that I'd never want to live in that state again. But everyone is intitled to their own opinions I guess. I just know that if the state and goverment get to much control none of us will be free.:aimeeyork

Yes, I agree people are very lucky not to live in California, we have had plans to move to another state anyway this year, which we are still planning to do so. The mandatory micro chipp and mandatory spay/nueter law was not passed by the people on a vote, it was put into law by those elected on the board of the Los Angeles Board Of Supervisors, I for one hope that there will be petitions to revoke this new law and it will put on the election ballots so that the people have their right to voice their choice on this new law. To those that don't have this law in your area IMO you are lucky. Patti

Correction on my post above , that is the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

I for one, love living in California. We are a progressive thinking state and we love and care about animals and their overpopulation. We have fantastic weather and they cannot build houses fast enough for the demand. California is a wonderful place to live and I find it interesting that so many people bash it, yet everyone visits or vacations here.

I love California too. If it wasn't so expensive here I wouldn't want to leave. I think that we pioneer a lot of new laws that make things better for the people. I have to move back to Illinois. I DO NOT look forward to coming back to a place where people are allowed to smoke in restaurants. The smell makes me sick to my stomach and my child has NEVER been around it.

As for the freedom thing. I served in the military and freedom isn't free. I am one of the most patriotic people you can meet, but I also understand that we need our laws. We tend to use the term FREE very vaguely. No country is truly free, but the ones that are "free" take the law into their own hands. But what happened if we were truly free? The people here would run amuck doing whatever they pleased. Freedom should have limitations so that it doesn't infringe on other people's freedoms. You can go smoke outside, but when you go and smoke in the same room as me you invade my freedom to my basic need of breathing. This is no disrespect to the smokers here. These laws are also in place to protect those who CAN NOT speak like our children, the unborn, and yes my friends... EVEN THE ANIMALS!

To me it is the same thing as the guy up the street who breeds his unpapered and bad temperamental pit bulls. Or the 20 year old neighbor who thought it would be cute to become a breeder let her 9 month old unpapered pug and a pug/terrier mix have puppies. Next they plan on studding their pug out to a beagle so they can sell puggles. Or the neighbor across the street that doesn't even groom their poodle and lets it run loose not fixed? Or my own parents who didn't fix even one of our cats or dogs when I was growing up? How about the a**holes on craigslist that sell their unpapered mixes at 5 weeks without shots?

Can anyone in here honestly say that they don't know someone who's guilty of bad breeding? Only the ethical breeders should be allowed to breed. This bill should make it so that only people who seriously consider breeding will do it. With 15 million dogs being killed it's gotten out of hand people. Things need to change and quickly. We are the humans who MADE these domesticated dogs and we have to fix the problem. How can people call themselves animal lovers and let all of these innocent deaths happen?

Do you know what the cost is to each tax payer to house these animals and then to euthanize them is? This is in no way a way to make more money for the cities but to end the uselss slaugher of many animals and the high costs of having city/state animal control centers.

I agree with you 100%.

Have yet to hear one person within our community tell me that they approve of this new law, many that I have talked with are saying they just won't license their dog. I can only see this as a real problem because if they don't license their dog, will they get their rabi shot or update their rabbi shots?????? It will be interesting to see what happens come September when the 90 days are up. I can only see this new law as a real problem and the future will unfold its outcome.

Well, it will be their own fault when they get ticketed for it. I think that it's a pet owner's reponsbility to license their dogs and their rabies shots. My friend was walking her 4 month old puppy with her kids and a cop pulled over asking for her the dog's license. She didn't have it yet because it wasn't old enough for the rabies shot. I'd imagine that more people walking their dogs would end up being harassed by cops then.

I am personally against mandatory spay/neuter, but then again I don't have a better answer to the problem. I also know that there is also a law in California that allows people to grow marijuana so I am surprised such liberals would place this law into effect.

Oh, we would consider to be lucky to live in the area where the police aren't so busy combating crime that they have the time to do other things. However, I can't see stopping to check on a license as being one of them. I will stick to the subject of why I brought up this post, and that is regarding mandatory laws passed here in our county, and my gripe is being told that we have to spay our yorkie when we don't want to do so, that is a right of ours, and I don't like govenment telling me that I have to do that. IMO it is our business if we want to or don't want to spay/neuter not big brothers.
For others that might want to read more on this I bookmarked a site, interesting news updates on this subject, (please look to the right and scroll up.) The vote was 4-0 and this was put into effect not by the vote of the people but by those elected officials on the board of supervisors :(

Thanks for taking the time to read this on the forum, I am thankful to live in a country where we have freedom of speech and where I believe that such laws as this is voted in by the people and not pushed on us like this was.

Smiles, :)
