Question about tipping Ok so I have no clue about this and I figured someone here would know or at least have an opinion. We are getting new living room furniture delivered, a couch, loveseat and chair. The ottoman isn't ready yet. Anyway so they, Haverty's, are suppsoed to deliver it tomorrow. Do I tip the delivery people and if so how much? Thanks everyone. |
I always tip when anything like that is done. The amount should depend on how many men are there and how much work they are doing. |
I figured I would I just didn't know how much. There's no stairs involved, well one but that's just to get in the house and is literally one stair. And then the room is right as you walk in. And I'm already going to have the other furniture out. Since I'm going to be picky how I want it and prob change it a hundred times I'll prob just have them leave it where ever and I'll come in later and fix it. 10-20 dollars each? More? And can I just hand it all to one guy/gal or do I need to give it to them seperately? I know these are childish questions but I've never had furniture delievered. |
I don't believe I've ever tipped for furniture delivery. I must be ignorant because the thought never crossed my mind.... |
living room furniture ok 20 bucks , no more than that. depending on how nice they are to you and maybe they will place it down to where you want it. |
I would say $10-15 each. I'm sure it wouldn't matter if you gave all the money to one or the other, but to play it safe you can give it to them individually. These aren't childish questions at all, you just wanted to know something, nothing wrong with that :) |
I'd give them like $20 bucks and say something like "Beers on me.. thanks fellas" |
Well when I had my furniture delivered a year ago, the delivery guy wouldn't accept a tip from me. The way he explained it is he contracts himself out and the 60 bucks that I payed for delivery went straight to him. I insisted that he take the 20 dollars but he refused. So I guess you could say I got off easy. The only thing he would accept though was a nice cold glass of water since it was like 98 degrees outside. I moved into my condo on June 17,2005 and I live in South Georgia! Tameika and Beauty |
Maybe im mean and cheap but I never tip for furniture delivery. Like Westco..thats their job there not doing anything special so i dont tip them. |
My Husband does deliverys all day and no one ever tips him. He delivers for businesses though like banks.I have never tipped for furniture delivery |
I ususally tip them 10 bucks each. Unless of course I make them rearrange it 20 times. Then it's more. |
Depends Are you paying for delivery? if i was paying i would give like 10 bucks...if delivery was free I would give more. |
I never thought about tipping for furniture delivery. I have tipped moving men though. Hmmm. That is a good question! It was interesting to read everyone's responses. |
i had my refrigerator delivererd, they got 20 bucks for a tip.. i say you should really tip them.. i think because they do bust their humps carrying this stuff in for you and really dont make much money,,, i guess im a good tipper... i give the nail girl 10 dollars tips. the hair cutter 10 dollars too... i know its their job, but what 10 dollars or 20 dollars to make someone happy. |
I have never thought of this. But when I moved into my new house, the guy that delivered our washer, dryer, and refridgerater didnt do anything! My hubby and dad did all of the work. The only thing that he did was get mud on my white carpet upstairs. I was sooooo mad. So needless to say he didnt get a tip. But even if he would have done a good job I dont know that I would have tipped him bc I have never thought of that. |
my theiry is ,, if it was me, i would want a tip.... |
I also agree, most of these men who are moving and delivering all these things to people, really work hard lift, carrying things, etc. and they dont make a lot of money doing it and some of them depend on the tips to make up for the smaller paycheck. |
Honestly I had never thought about it either until I was reading on the web somewhere and someone mentioned "like tipping for furniture delivery". Had I not read that I would've never tipped them b/c I wouldn't have thought about it. I have mixed feelings on it too. Its coming from a havertys warehouse probably in a havertys truck and I paid for delivery so at first I kinda thought I shouldn't have to tip. It seems like we tip for everything now. I consider myself a good tipper too I tip my hair gal 25-30 dollars for a cut and highlight. I love her and she will stay late or come in early for me, its always good to be on good terms with your hair stylist. If I went to someone else the tip would probably be lowered a bit. Anyway I'm guessing maybe 10-15 bucks a piece I'm guessing that there will probably be two of them so 20-30 dollars isn't bad. |
I will tip $10 per guy they can have lunch on you. Some places will not allow them to accept tips, but it's a nice gesture to try. |
I tip every delivery person. What's the difference between, pizza, flowers or furniture??? A delivery is a delivery, and IMO they should be tipped.:) :) :) :) |
I have never tipped anyone other than at a restaurant. I didn't know I was suppose to and I'm in the over 50 club. I really can't afford to either to be honest. For instance, I pay $50 for a cut and color (don't want my gray showing yet) LOL every 4-5 weeks so adding another $10-$15 is way outta my budget. I couldn't afford to do that with everything. Where's lady luck in the lottery when I need her? (no I don't really play the lottery, maybe that's why I've never won!!!) |
Wow never thought of this before. I guess now that I think about it I compare it to my pizza delivery. If they charge a delivery fee I don't tip them, it's their job and they are already dinging me $2-$5 to deliver my pizza. On the other hand, if there isn't a fee than I do tip them. I've never had free delivery of my furniture so I guess that explains why I have never tipped them before. |
i tip for everything, i feel you just should... even the dog groomers, they get 10 dollar tips for doing lexi.... you never know if you give a bad tip, the next time they might treat you dog not too good you know... so tip, tip ,tip, its a good thing to do.... waiters and waitress are usually supposed to get double the tax , i double it and then some... its just a way to say thanks... |
Tiping is not a complex thing. I have been on both ends of that game and know how it works. It all depends how comfortable you feel with your wallet, what mood you are in and amount of work done. I tiped a guy $20 to deliver a plasma, 5th floor, elevator, nothing too bad, but turned out he was from my home town, so $20. To guys delivered a couch that eve and assembled it, $10, Cable guy, $10. All for just doing their work. Give what you feel is right, what feels good for you. Me I am gald I am in a position to say thank you to a person with my money, money that he can use for himself, money that might help him. Tip should come from a heart. I think diners get the lowest tips, 2 bucks at most for a $10 meal, 3 for $20, $5 for 50. |
Good question... I have never tipped for furniture delivery...never thought about it! Everything else gets tipped 20% of the bill. Sometimes more. |
