NEW YORK (AP) -- Being the "American Idol" runner-up has its rewards, too.

Katharine McPhee, who lost out to Taylor Hicks in the top-rated Fox show's finale two weeks ago, has signed a record deal with music mogul Clive Davis in conjunction with 19 Recordings Unlimited, the label managed by "Idol" creator Simon Fuller, it was announced Tuesday.

The 22-year-old California native's recording of two songs -- "Over the Rainbow" and "My Destiny" -- will be released in stores and through digital outlets on June 27.

Hicks also recently signed the record deal that came with his victory.

After the "Idol" finale, McPhee told The Associated Press she hadn't expected to win and didn't have any regrets.

"It would really just be silly to feel bad for me at this point. I got a record deal, a new car," she told the AP.

She also said she hopes eventually to do movies as well as musical theater.

Personally, I'm a Taylor Hicks fan...mainly because he is from my hometown :D

I think Kat will do great. I personally don't like Taylor, I think he's a phony. He puts on this act and I hate phony people. Kat is totally honest and real. She will go places :D

well, I wasnt gonna say anything about Kat that sounded bad, but since you did about Taylor I have to admit. I voted for him and was proud he won and thought kat had a little too much attitude in the beginning, then she started forgetting her words, but she had a great voice, but to me she was no all around entertainer. To me she seemed to fit the format as a broadway singer and in musicals. But I'm happy Taylor won and I dont think for a minute he was put on. I just think he was more of an over all entertainer than Kat. She was pretty and sang well and I am happy for her. She is looking more for stardom as an actress I think.

I agree 100%. I think Kat is more interested in being "famous" than being a singer.

What really got me is when the contestants were talking about how much their parents meant to them, then Kat said that she never talks to her parents.

Obviously, everyone is different and everyone has different tastes and preferences. In addition, I think we are all a little biased. Vainchick5, you're from California which is where Kat is from, and KizzysMom and I are from Alabama which is where Taylor is from.

So, Way to go Taylor AND Way to go Kat!! Y'all have both made your fans proud! :D

Actually I've never really paid attention to where contestants are from. I really don't care about that. I care about the talent factor and I think Taylor is a fake. Wait and see guys. He's putting on this act of being a crazy girating entertainer. All of them are in it for the fame. If they weren't they would do stuff like having a "soul patrol" or jiggling around on stage. From the beginning they all want to have something they will be famous for. I think Kat is a bigger talent and I'm actually glad she didn't win because she won't be under as heavy of a contract as Taylor will :D Leaving her more options.

I am a Taylor fan all the way. Funny you mentioned phony. That's what I thought each week as I watched Kat. Too put together, too many airs and an almost snobbish attitude. Taylor's down home ways are what really appealed to me. With Taylor, what you see if what you get. Being from the South, I can totally relate.

Well for someone you think is a fake. Prior to Idol he had great success in the south with his own band doing the local scene. So millions of people disagree and probably agree with you. I personally liked him because he is so crazy and a great entertainer. I'm sure that he & Katherine both will go far.

I hope I didn't make anyone mad. JMO

I am proud for Kat and Taylor...with that said, the finals should have been between Chris and Taylor and even then, it would have been a tough choice. I can see Kat with movies in her future or singing on Broadway. I don't think Taylor is a fake, he is an entertainer. He had more stage presence than Kat...he kept you right there with him throughout his performance and to be a great entertainer, that is what it takes. I know we are all different and have different likes and dislikes...that is what makes it America and gives us those rights. To each his or her own. JMO :cool:

I agree 100% with everything you said. I loved Chris! But if he and Taylor were both the finalists, I would have a hard time chosing who to vote for! :D

Hard decision for sure. It would have depended on their individual performances the night before the final...that is how close I thought they were...they were both my favs for sure. And I was really surprised that Paris did not make it any further than she did! There was really a lot of awesome talent this year...it was hard for sure!
