A (duck) mother's love has no boundaries... We have a duck that now has a 8 little ducklings and 1 miniature chickie baby. Obviously one of our little bani Chickens laid an egg in the duck's nest. She is taking care of it as one of her own. While all the other duckies are nestled under their mother to sleep, the little chick is trying to roost on top of it's "mother" :p I thought it was pretty cute and just wanted to share. They walk around with all their ducks in a row plus one mini chickie:D BUT I wonder what will happen when she tries to teach them to swim? |
How adorable! I would love to see pictures! :) |
I too would love to see pictures. My duck was sitting on eggs and something raided her nest she died a couple days later and the eggs were just days from hatching. I miss them so much. Now I can live threw your babies. So pictures please. lol |
1 Attachment(s) Here they are! LOL Doggrooming, I'm sorry your babies died. We had the same problem with ours as well. We have lost 2 hens and their babies this year. As you can see in the pic my husband put these guys in a pen to keep them safe this time. |
Haha, that sounds adorable! |

That is a very cute picture. That mommy duck has a lovely family even if onw is an "ugly duckling". (Beatiful chick). Thanks for sharing a precious picture with us.:) |
Thanks for the picture. I need my ducky fix since my last duck died the other day. We keep ours in a pen also but every now and then a snake or possum will get in. Oh well I've givin up on having baby ducks. I'll just have to hope one of my chickens learns to swim in the pond. LOL! |
My daughter lives in an apt. complex that has a pond w/ ducks. This is their first summer there & her children are enjoying watching the activity of the duck families. The males are extremely protective of their lady duck and their babies. If you get within 10 ft. of them the male will chase you down & peck you.My granddaughter (she's ten) found an egg w/ no mom around so she took it home for a few days and kept it warm in a slipper. Then she spots a mom setting on a nest w/ four eggs in it. She slowly walks up to the mom and shows her the egg, she raises up,and allows her to place the egg in the nest. A few weeks later four eggs hatch, but not the fifth. We thought it probably died, but a week later that last egg hatched and now mom has five. My GD was so delighted. They were driving in to the complex & the whole duck family was standing on the side waiting to cross. My D stops her car to allow them to cross but they won't cross. One of the babies decides to cross, so the father reaches out and grabbed him & pulled him back, then he jabs him in the side about four times while making squacking sounds at the baby, as if he were scolding him.The baby was also squaking as if it hurt. My D & GD burst out laughing.the the GD says " He got in trouble!" |
1 Attachment(s) I live in a condo that has lakes, ponds and ducks! This year we had 10 ducklings from one pair! To top that, I think all 10 are females! The ducklings are now all as big as their mama and I'm having a hard time deciding which one IS the mama duck! |
NATURE IS AWESOME !!! how cute is that ? I wonder what happened to the mom ? and that's a GREAT Duck mom and Baby PICTURE  |
