Yes, I remember the ol' typewriter, still have one here to type stuff in for tax forms.. I so hate it.. correction tape is shot,, and guess what can't find a replacement anywhere,,why... NOONE USES THEM ANYMORE.

I was born in early 70's and remember playing hide and seek, catch the ball, softball, volleyball and all kinds of outdoors games.
I was like wowwww!!when I saw an atari for the first time in the early 80's. The VCR's with the wired remoto control and with betta format was the latest in our neighborhood. Internet, Ipod,DVD,cell phones, so many things didn't exist back then. YT is not that old either.

Born in '52 not to many modern conveniences. Had a milk man. no showers, just tubs, Rag man came down the alley with a Horse and wagon. hand ringer washer. no car seats or seat belts. party lines (my best friend and I had fun with that as kids!!

Oh, I remember the old typewriters!! My hands were very small back in high school and my fingers would get so sore hitting between the keys. We also had a few electric typewriters but only a few people got to use them.

Did anyone have any Suzy Homemaker toys? I had a little stove. I had to beg and beg for one. It was another thing that my Mom said wouldn't work. I had a cousin and she had the stove, sink, and another thing, maybe a dishwasher. Oh, and I had a Suzy Homemaker mixer!

Did anyone ever try to see what your gifts were under the tree? I used to try to see through the paper to figure out what was inside!! I had figured out that I had a Suzy Homemaker over by doing that!!!

I loved Clackers and I think that the other thing was called a Wheel-O. We also had Super Balls and would go out in the middle of the street and slam them down on the pavement as hard as we could to see how high they would go. Thank goodness we never broke anything!!!

I had a record player and loved to listen to records of the Jackson 5, the Osmonds, B.J. Thomas, and so many others!!!

And on May Day we would make little baskets with paper cups and pipe cleaners for handles. We would fill the "baskets" with popcorn and candy and put a little spirea that was blooming on the top. Then we would set a basket in front of the neighbor's door, knock on the door, then run and hide.

I'm still having trouble staying on topic. Ok, let's see.....I guess that I meant to say that we didn't have electric typewriters when I was born.....or, ummmm,.......electric toys.......or.......a......8-track players. cd players, or cassette players.

Oh! Oh! Oh!! I just thought of something.....a dishwasher!! My Mom would say that she had one.....Me!!! After every meal the dishes had to be washed, dried, and put away. There was no dish drainer and no waiting until later like I do now!!

This is fun. Maybe I'll think of some more later!!!

Must've been too old to be Suzy homemaker. ;) BUT I opened and re-wrapped with the original paper mind you....every gift that was under the tree with my name.

One time me and a friend rushed through that dish washing....rushed a little too quickly...come breakfast...we were washing the same dishes AGAIN. :rolleyes:

I did have a metal kitchenset though....a sink, fridge, and stove...it was avacodo green. And I bet that sucker sells for big bucks on eBay now. ;)

Before walkmans and ipods...you had transistor radios w/ one ear phone.

Oh oh...did you have one of the round smiley transistor radio that you hung around your neck?? Still have that too!! Mine was yellow!

Yep...I unwrapped and rewrapped every present under the tree for me and I taught my best friend how to do it also! My parents never knew until I told them after I was married...my boys try it and I know before they are even finished!

Did your Mom notice? or were you a good enough wrapper that you got away with it? So..... what happened?

A fun memory that I have is also at Christmas time. My brother was about 6 or 7. My mom and I had run to the store for a short time and had left my brother at home. He wanted another GI Joe for Christmas and there was a package under the tree that he just knew was a GI Joe. He had taken the GI Joe that he had and had measured it against the box to see if a GI Joe would fit in the box. (It was a GI Joe.) Well, our house had a hallway that went from the front room into the back room. It ran through the center of the house and our Christmas tree was in the back room against the wall, but was at the end of the hallway. When we got back from the store Mom went to put some presents under the tree and noticed that the GI Joe package had been opened and "someone" had tried to re-wrap the box. Well, my brother said that he and our dashund had been running down the hallway and the dog had "run into the present", unwrapping it in the process. However, my brother assured my mom that he'd tried to wrap it back the best he could. I still remember him telling Mom the story. It was so funny!!!

Never had to use the dog did it excuse. :D I was way good....years of experience....when my mother finally caught on...she started using curling ribbon and tied knots in it....it is impossible to unknot curly ribbon...trust me, I tried. Even opened the first gift hubby, then BF, gave me. He was foolish enough to place it under our tree. ;)

No smiley radio....basic black rectangule. Smiley faces came out too late....by then I had a reel to reel tape deck. :rolleyes: Just realized I have owned ONE of every audio device....radio, record player, reel to reel, 8 track, cassette, CD's.....:rolleyes:

Not every one...in my first car, a '71 VW beetle, there was some kind of funky tape player that you could not buy tapes for...had a friend that happened to have 2 tapes, by someone I had never heard of before, and we would play them. I can not remember the name of the tape player, it was almost like a teeny tiny 8 track tape player the way the tapes looked and the way that you put them in!

My mom told me about party lines...haven't heard about those in a while.

I was born in '75 so there weren't any of the current conveniences--cell phones, internet, microwaves, DVDs, CDs, etc., I think audio cassette tapes came out in the early '80s so they might have been before my time. MTV came out in '82, wasn't it (back in the day when there were music videos on MTV)????

Speaking of Avocado green :D :D :D All of our appliances were Avocado green and all my mom's friends were jealous of her new "matching appliances". We also had ORANGE shag carpeting and on Saturdays I had to vacuum it and then rake it with a regular yard rake LOL!!! If company came over we raked it to all stand up and not see footprints...that sounds so goofy now!!

The Chrissy Doll had long red hair...you pushed a button and her ponytail would extend out until her hair was down to her knees. Then she had a dial on her back to wind it back up short. Remember the Mrs. Beasley Doll? From that show Family Affair?? Also, the game Red Rover?? And did anyone play "thumbs up, seven up" in school?

But, back on topic.. cars did not have remote devices to open them, heck they didn't have electric windows or doors....you were rolling those suckers up and down :p No car alarms, but people weren't stealing cars left and right either. No car seats or seat belts required, you could ride in the back window behind the rear seats...don't even think cars have that space in them anymore. No digital alarm clocks or anykind of clock was digital..you had to know how to tell time. No velcro sneakers, you had to learn to tie your shoes. No pullups for potty training...you either were or you weren't. The coke cans had the ring you pulled off and people would throw them on the ground,...you had to look where you stepped if you were bare-footed. This is fun!!!!!!!!:rolleyes:

I'm old, or older. Born in 1958. I remember sleeping with just sheets and a open window. If we were lucky we had the fan that night! Kids and even adults could never survive anymore like that!! Funny kinda sounds like the story "when I was a kid I walked throught the snow for 2 miles and with bare feet to get to school!" LOL:D
