I read everyday to the kids and your right dr suess is a lil hard on the tongue after awhile lol. My 10 year old (made honor roll again  ) reads two grades ahead of where he should be. I love to read it's my way to relax or unwind(that is till I found yt) . sue |
you know it is sad how advanced some kids are and how NOT others are..... i see it EVERY day, we have kids that can count to 100, and then we have kids that cant even count to 3..... i bet you can guess which kid gets read too and taught not only at school but at home as well |
I agree orinskye, I am also room mom for my sons class and you do see it all the time. Every time I have gone on a field trip with the class(have gone to every one since son was in kindergarten) I have met parents who only rely on those trips for the kids to visit musuems and zoos and plays. We always are heading to the museums whenever there is a new exhibit an d the kids love it. Infact when we go shopping the kids know they wont get toys but I never say no to books or art supplies :D . That i learned from my mom lol. It is a shame especially when reading time is such a good way to unwind the kids as well as prepare them for school if started at an early age. |
Yeah, I totally see that. Some of the kids who are Natalie's age in her preschool can't do half the things she can. I will admit that my son wasn't as "quick" as she is, but it wasn't from lack of trying. They are actually thinking of testing him for a learning disability, although I think he just isn't quite as bright, which is fine - as long as he is trying and improving, you know? Anyway, I went into the preschool on Thursday for Natalie's parent-teacher conference and the teacher was going on and on about how Natalie is difficult because she gets bored quickly with things she already knows. Kind of a double edged sword - I felt proud, but worried about the behavior thing. We plan on going to the Santa Barbara zoo in a week, I think that should be fun. Since that's the plan, I've printed out all kinds of animal work sheets for them to work on until we go and we're going to the library today to get some "zoo" books. My friend who has a four year old doesn't believe in doing those sorts of things for her son. She thinks it's the teachers' job once they get hold of him. To each his own, I guess, huh? I'm glad I'm not the only one who sets up projects and stuff for their children though! |
awwww have fun at the zoo today. I think we going to hit navy pier today as long as the weather stays nice(supposed to be mid 70's). I personally want to get the grill out and start grilling lol. Aimee I wouldnt worry that much my son was a slow starter in certian areas and my 4yr old was quick to catch on to other things. I think they all have thier pace as long we encourage our children to do thier best then we are okay. Besides im gonna be 36 and still cant figure out fractions lol |
we read aloud in our house everyday. both of my children love to read. my five year old has been reading by herself since she was 3 and now my two year old has started to read. i never really reliesed that my girls were gifted. it takes a parent and caregivers time to help a child learn. we work on school work everyday and to the girls it is fun. the beg to do school work. my five year old starts kindergarten in the fall and we think that she will be borded to death. if that is the case we have said that we will homeschool her. the only reason we have said not at this time is we want her around other children. bless all of you that read and that take time out of your day to read to your family. we need more parents out there like you. |
I love reading to the kids but god I wish they could all agree on the same books lmao. :p |

a friend of mine is the same way her daughter is in special ed cause of it its very sad the little girl is gonna be 7 and she loves to learn but her mother dont wanna be bothered we tryed helping but her mother got jelous and stop her from comming to my house so much now we barely see her all i know is that she very behind in school she knows some of her colors and barely can count and these stupid school just push them a head cause they dont wanna be bothered either the younger a child is the more you cann teach them between when the start talking and going to school is up to the parent to get them either ahead or just right some parents just dont care :thumbdown |
actually techniquelly you are right AND You are wrong lenora.... the school can hold back the child BUT from what you say this child is probably kindergarten (maybe just preschool) learning level...... If she is 7 then she cannot be held back at this level because it could be a "danger to other children" . . . Here in california kindergarten is OPTIONAL, a child really only has to start school at 1st grade..... A parent can also request that the child be held back (but who wants to do that to there kid right??? especially if the parent doesnt care).... This is why they developed the RSP program, this program allowed students to move with their own age group BUT get the extra one on one attention that they need to do better in school........ the whole reason abotu not holding them back with their learning group is because of the age difference though, a child that is 8 would not do well in a clasroom with a bunch of 5 yr olds |
i agree but pushing her ahead to the next grade is doing nothing my mother is her godmother its sad there nothing we can do were not even talking to the mother we think there something else wrong with her cause shes very spitefull shes not allow near the dogs cause she hurt them she has this thing about there eyes so when she use to come over the dogs went in the cage  |
