Missing Tortoise My sisters Tortoise, Kenya who is really big, got loose Sunday when she put it out in the dog run for some sun. She has posted reward posters and searched every where and cant find her. She has had her 14 years. Someone called today when they saw a poster and said they saw it yesterday heading South crossing a major 6 lane road. She hadn't seen the posters yet so she didn't pick it up. Where it was spotted was 1 mile from her home in a very woodsy area. Please say a prayer for her safe return. |
I don't know much about turtles, but how did it get out of the dog run? My friend's sister had a pair that she kept in the backyard. They would come to the back door every day for food. We call her husband the turtle whisperer. LOL Anyway, hers used to dig holes and hide. Just a thought to maybe check the run again. Good luck. |
Someone left the gate open. She lives on 5 acres with Alpacas and the Tortoise is always inside except for nice days she pute her out. Someone saw it 1 mile away so they know it's on the move. Her kids and her stayed home form work/school to look and put up Reward posters |
I really hopes she is brought back home safely! |
Oh that is sad! I hope they find her soon! It is just so hard when you don't know where they are or how they are doing! The not knowing part is always the hardest! |
I have owned tortoises for years, so I know how she feels. I own an Aldabra who is my pride and joy. I have thought that she was lost several times and she ended up being in different places around the yard. It is scarey for her because she was $3,500. Her species grows to be the second largest in the world. Anyways, here is some advise. I would buy lots of romane lettuce and put a big pile of it around where the person last saw it. Sprinkle little bits of it leading to the big pile. This is the area is grassy. Check on it from time to time to see if he comes to it. Tortoises prefer this lettuce over grass and will travel to it instead of eating the grass. It depends on the area. If it is a dirt or sandy area, they will even travel to a bale of hay. They are more likely to follow the path of the road then cross it. But sometimes they do try to cross it, I really hope it did not attempt to and was frightened by the cars. try to or drive slowly in the emergency lane, this is where it's most likly to be. But if people saw it from the road, someone is likly to pick it up. So definately put up posters. Put them up in Petsmart, Petco, feed stores, just all of the pet stores and grocery stores where people are likely to buy tortoise supplies. Good luck. |
