Daughter's Cat Swallowed a Sewing Needle Well, my day was going nice and quiet today...till I heard my 16 year old holler...'mom, Bootsie swallowed a needle'! OMG! Kaitlyn (daughter) was sewing and stuck the needle in what she was sewing to go and do something and she turned around just in time to see the cat pull the needle out of the fabric and eat it! Can you imagine? I called hubby at work immediately and he came home and rushed Kate and the cat to the vet. I had visions of the worst case scenario...xrays, surgery, etc., etc., and all the money it would require. Thankfully, though, the needle lodged in the cat's mouth and the vet was able to retrieve it easily. Bootsie is doing fine. (Vet charged 60.00 to remove the needle....better than the thousands for surgery, that's for sure, but still alot!!) I can't imagine why the cat would do something like that!! We sew so much around here...I guess we're going to have to be even more careful where we leave the needles and pins... |
wow! I am so amazed that this didn't turn out worse. You got so lucky! You just never know what animals will try to eat. Thank God it didn't get any further than the mouth. I agree with you, I would rather pay $60.00 over thousands of dollars any day! |
Wow that was so scary. Im glad that the vet was able to retrieve the needle easily. |
Wow, I'm sure I would have freaked out too! You have great husband for taking off work like that. My neighbors Irish Setter swallowed a fish hook once and beleive it or not the dog passed it with no problems. I also, remember seeing on the news not long ago a large breed dog that swallowed like 10 inch carving knife during Thanksgiving or something like that, the knife had juices on it and the dog just swallowed the whole knife! They showed the x-rays on the news and OMG it was huge! That one did require surgery to remove but the dog was fine. Could you IMAGINE!! Coming in the kitchen and not finding the carving knife and then your dog starts to get sick. That would be the last thing I would think of. These pets of ours can do some crazy things and require our almost constant supervision. I'm so glad your daughters cat is okay, wow, thats scary!! |
So glad it turned out the way it did. |
Wow, they had the same thing on Animal Planet, Emergency Vets, with a cat,and it was lodged in the back of its throat, but they opened up it's mouth and with tweezers pulled it out.. Go figure. Glad she's ok. |
Whew....good for kitty. Our dog ate one once...it made it just about to the end (no pun intended)...it turned coming out and pushed her sphinter inside out  The emergency vet removed the needle, more or less pushed her innards back in her, and sewed a purse string stitch around...took it out the next afternoon. I was much more careful of needles and thread after that I can tell ya. ;) |
