Yellowing Lawn.... Lex seems to love to pee on my grass in the front of our house. It was very nice and green as spring started. It is now yellowing in spots and I am curious to know if anyone has a suggestion to prevent this. I dont' care that he wants to pee on it but I try to keep it looking nice because it's the front of the house and adds to the attraction and well groomed look that I like. I found this stuff online and I was wondering if anyone has used this before? Or maybe if you have a better solution. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...&N=2001+113111 This is what it says about it's use: Eliminate the damaging effects pet waste has on your lawn. This effective nutritional supplement with plant extract Yucca schidigera also contains essential B Vitamins and other healthy ingredients. Regular Strength Tablets help reduce lawn burn by getting at the cause – the urea and ammonia in your pet's waste. Contains Yucca schidigera, which helps fight lawn burn by binding ammonia in urine to prevent lawn damage. Yucca also decreases fecal odor. Liver flavor. For dogs only. |

I have never used that particular product. I have used similar products such as grass saver and nutravet grass saver. They both have worked well for me. I looked on the website that you put up and looks and sounds similar to what I have used the only difference is that is says it is for big dogs and I am not sure that I would use it for a yorkie. |
Grass saver can you send me the link to the stuff you purchased..thanks. Well the site has a specific set for big dogs and then there is the regular strength for the other dogs. Thanks |
My mother would always hose the spot our dogs went on immediately after to prevent the grass from burning. This did seems to work. |

I used to co-own a lawn fertilizing company. A dog's urine is full of urea and amonia by nature (female dogs have a higher content) which when combined with sunlight and warmth will burn the grass. Rinsing with plain water will reduce effects as will treating the lawn with Lime with neutralizes the acid. I'm not sure I would give my very small dog a supplement not intended specifically for him/her without consulting my vet first, particularly since simple steps can keep the lawn looking great. |

Purchase the lime (a powder-like substance) at any place with a garden center, generally 10-20 lb bags. There isn't a specific name brand. You generally use a hand-held spreader (with a crank). I'm not sure if you can purchase lime in smaller amounts, perhaps a canister that might have a shaker top?? Basically you sprinkle it on the lawn and then lightly water. If you consistently water after the puppy urinates, then you only use the lime about once a month. Otherwise the lawn becomes to alkaline and that causes issues as well. Hope this helps. |
Lime I will check Home Depot this weekend for this stuff. Thanks. |
