Calling All Handy Sewing People! I Need Help!

Thanks for reading this post! :D I just bought a sewing machine. I know how to sew, but I used to just borrow my mother's. Well, I want to make this swag/curtain for the living room window because I am NOT spending $150 + cost of tassles on ONE swag at Country Curtains! :eek: I told Matt I would try to make it myself b/c it doesn't look that hard. My question is, by looking at the pics below, what kind of fabric do you think this is? What's it called? Do you recommend any specific "heavy" fabric that would look nice for this swag?

Thanks in advance for your input, and if I make it and it comes out nice, I will post a pic. ;)

Nicole...those swags are very pretty. Don't ask me about curtain material. I just look at pictures and then go to a fabric store in the upholstry section and try to match up the designs on the material!:rolleyes: But those are very nice. Let us know how it turns out!

I suggest you go to a Joann's fabrics or Hancock fabrics as they carry upholstery fabrics, which I believe is on the photo. There are some that are a bit stiff but some that would work well on making swag curtains. If unsure, have them point out to you the ones which would work well. I made a swag curtain for my daughter's room a long time ago with just cotton but lined it well and came out really nice. Unfortunately I do not have pictures to show it.

Thanks. I thought it was upholstery, and they sell it in a store by my house. I think I'll print the pic of the fabric, and show it to them and say, "I want this!" :D

well you might change your mind the minute you walk through their doors as they have tons of selection you could absolutely go crazy . . . I still don't have window treatments on my windows just because I can't darn make up my mind on what fabric to buy . . . they are all so gorgeous!

Hmm, I cant think of the specific name of that fabric but if you go to the fabric store that fabric would be in the section with the upholstery fabric.

That is antique satin,runs about $5.00 a yard at Joannes,works up great:aimeeyork

I believe that is Damask.

Those are a gorgeous style! And yet they do look fairly easy to do yourself. Good luck!
