My bad news Hey everyone. I haven't been around at all today. My husband found out that he is being sent to Turkey (with the Air Force) for 15 months, leaving in July. I'm pretty floored by this - my husband is my best friend and we have two children as well as Sandy and Tia. He's gone away before but the longest was for 4 months. Of course, this is always a possibility being in the armed forces, but never easy to handle. I'm sure we'll be fine and everything, it's just very hard to imagine being without him for 15 months. Anyway, I'm having a hell of a day because of this and kind of needed to vent. Thanks for letting me. |
I am SO sorry to hear this. I don't know what to say except that he is in my prayers for a speedy return home. :( |
We'll all be here to support you! |
im sorry to hear about this your. family will be in my prayers |
Aimee, I am so sorry! We have two "career" military retirees and it was so hard for them to be away from their families ... seems like it's even more difficult when there are children. We will remember you & your family in our prayers .... don't forget, you always have us [for whatever that's worth! ;) ]. |
In our prayers Keep us posted and know that we're here for you. Also, just wanted to let you know something cute and special. My 7 year old son prayers for all the "soldiers in Iraq" every single night. For their safety and for them to come home soon. Just know that God is with them all. God bless, Heather |
Thanks so much, everyone - your thoughts, prayers, and support mean the world to me :) I appreciate them all more than you can imagine! |
Oh Aimee, I feel for you. I'm not sure what's worse. Staying behind or going with. My dad was in the military when I was growing up and we all lived in Turkey for 2 years. It was hard on my mom. I hate hearing that Daddy's have to leave! I hope things go as smoothly as possible with the kids and his departure. Take care. Me and my kids will say a prayer for you and yours... |
Aimee: We'll count the months together! My son leaves in about 3 weeks with the Marine Corp. I couldn't imagine having my husband being deployed. My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to you, the children and your husband. Lisa |
We're all thinking of you and your family, aimee! Just remember you have YorkieTalk friends you can rely on. Do you have any extended family members nearby at all? |
My in-laws live in San Diego, but uh - well I probably won't want to raise my stress levels THAT high while he's away. I'm pretty sure they'll be making regular visits as their schedule permits, though. The great thing about the military is that in times like this, the families really come through for you. We've told two of our friends who live here on base and both husbands are already offering to mow the lawn, pull weeds, etc. It helps put your mind at ease, if nothing else. My parents are also planning now to come for a visit from Nebraska during the summer. Living on base, you're pretty self-sufficient, (we have a gas station, grocery store, schools, liquor store, wal-mart type store ((bx))) and there are two cities really close (Lompoc and Santa Maria) that have pretty much everything I could want besides outlet shopping ;) So, I'm sure we'll be okay. It's just the shock of "Oh honey - I'm sorry but they are sending me away for 15 months. And we'll get hazardous duty pay!" -- that last part can't help but get to you, you know? You guys are the best - I'm sure you'll be seeing much more of me when he leaves...is that even possible? ;) |
Oh yeah! I asked my husband if he'll be put out to come home to another Yorkie - his response? "You're the boss, honey!" LOL |
Sorry for your bad news You and your family will definately be in our prayers. Take care of yourself!!! |
sorry to hear i can't relate to you completely but the unit out of my town just got back from a years deployment in iraq. i had quite a few friends that were over there and i use to talk to them on yahoo messenger all the time. will he have internet access? it's sure not the same as having them there in person but it beats nothing. i don't know if your big into "Support Our Troops" but i just ordered these yellow bracelets that say "Until They All Come Home" on them, if you'd like one i'd be more than happy to send one to you. |
I'm sorry to hear about it. I will pray for a speedy return. |
I am so sorry Aimee! I will be keeping you & yours in my thoughts.. One of my future brother in laws is over in Iraq right now in the Army. He's been over there for almost a year now and will be for another. It's very scary and we're all praying very hard that he comes home safe. And to top that off, one of my other future brother in laws is getting deployed to Iraq in July! He's married, thankfully doesn't have any kids, but I just can't imagine how his wife is going to handle it... 2 of my fiance's brothers are going to be in Iraq at the same time... VERY scary :( |
Aimee, I'm very sorry that you won't have your husband around for so long. I don't have many personal connections to the military, but I do feel for people in your situation. And I also thank your husband for the service he does for our country. |
Aww, again - you guys are the best - thanks so much! The newest development is that a group of guys are slated to go to Iraq from my husband'd squadron. If he wouldn't have gotten these orders yesterday, he would be on his way there in May. Thank God for small favors. Turkey isn't very American-friendly (from what we've been told) - but he is in Intelligence so shouldn't be in any danger, much less so than if he went to Iraq anyway. All the guys who are currently going to Iraq are volunteers, although I support my husband, I can't imagine the dedication some of these guys have to our country. It never ceases to amaze. So, that's the news right now. |
Aimee, bless your heart!! I know how your heart is so sad right now but please remember we are all here for you. You "vent" anytime you need to. You and your family will remain in our hearts and don't ever feel like you have to go through this alone.... |
