By heart was in my throat last night! We were all in bed last night and my husband and I were just about to drift off to sleep when out of no where my 4 year old son Kobe started screaming. But it was a weird scream. Like he was struggling to get anything to come out. We went into his room to find him wiggling around and gasping for air. But there was a whisling sound when he did take breaths. We knew that he has some asthma troubles as a baby, and so did his brother. So we always keep emergency inhalers in the house. I was sitting there holding him trying to keep him as calm as possible. Which is almost impossible for an adult to do during an attack. Imagine trying to get a 4 year old to calm down. So we gave him the emergency inhaler 5 times before he was breathing a little better. I sat next to him all night long to make sure that he didn't have another episode. All day today he has been hoarse, and just out of it, almost like he is coming down with something. This just came out of no where! We will be going to the doctor in the morning to get it checked out. And in the mean time I will be watching him like a hawk. |
Poor baby! I hope that he is feeling ok! Keep us updated on how he is doing! |
Oh poor Kobe what a way to spend Easter..... |
Oh poor Kobe!! Sorry that happened, Heather! Good luck with the doc tomorrow. Let us know how it goes, OK? |
Oh how frightening. I have a 2 year old Grandson that has asthma attacks. I have never seen one, he lives in Wales, but it's very frightening for my son and DIL. |
That must have been terrifying - thank goodness he was able to get out enough sound to wake you up! I know you were so scared - there's nothing worse than a sick child. I hope everything turns out OK!!! |
I have two kids, and both of them have done that to me...my daughter more then once...and like your son, out of nowhere - and at night. Makes you wonder what sets it off. Usually it ends up being croup, but there is nothing worse then seeing your child gasping for air. I am glad he was alright after you "puffed" him. I don't have inhalers in the house. We have always ended up taking them outside wrapped in a blanket (if it happened in the winter), or into the bathroom with a hot shower running. The cold or steam usually helps out so we feel confident to take them to the hospital. It is scarry though! I am glad to hear he is alright! :) |
Poor darling. I hope he's doing better. That was so scary for him. . . and you!! It could be allergy related. My daughter's attacks come out of no where also, and it's related to something that she's allergic to. It's almost always the same time of year, and at night -- so we are pretty sure it's something that releases it's pollen in the spring. Good luck with your Dr., and keep us posted. |
thanks everyone. He is sleeping soundly now. Im still watching him like a hawk and watching him breath to make sure he doesn't start to wheeze or anything. Will keep you all updated! |
That poor baby! I have allergy induced asthma and while it doesn't get as bad as Kobe's sounds, it's a horrible feeling. It must petrify the poor dear to wake up not able to breath. Hope he gets some rest tonight (and you, too!) and all goes well tomorrow for him. |
Poor Baby....that must have been terrifying .....is he better today ? |
Poor little one, you must have been so worried |
OMG! How terrifying! Let us know what happens at the doctor's. :( |
Heather: Do you have a small portable nebulizer? Omron makes one and you can get a childs mask to fit on it also. You can google it: Omron Micro Air Nebulizer. It's a small thing. I have one and love using it. You can use it sitting in a chair or lying down in bed! Good luck at the doctor. Maybe he'll give you a RX for it (but it would have to be for the MINI one not the BIG nebulizer) and the insurance will cover the cost of it. |
Heather I'm so sorry your poor son was sick. Thanks God you heard him! Please let us know what the doctor says. Good thing you had those inhalers. |
