Does anyone have a chihuahua. In the far future i might get one.Does anyone on this site have one ?If so Do they bark at everything and what is an average weight for one. |
I had one. I had a female 'deer head' chihuahua named Pixie. She weighed 4lbs full grown and was a very timid dog. She was a barker, but we corrected that using a bark collar. (Only took her a week & after that she never had another problem) Here's a picture of her http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...i/P1010264.jpg |
OMG !! Pixie is soooo cute! I didn't know they had a breed callled dear head. |
I had a Chihuahua , She was a 3 pounders . As my mother always said " If you let a puppy bark all the time and you find it very funny , don't be mad when he or she bark as an adult ". No matter the breed of the dog , good habit should be teached when young . |
I have one, too...LOVE her to death. She will be 1 year old this month....her name is "apple"....she is chocolate/tan and nearly 5 pounds..... Barking has been a tiny issue....but she "learned" to lay around and be lazy from my ancient, aging greyhound....so she is really a laid back dog..for a chi. She really doesn't bark much....but if someone comes to the door she gets noisy...which is ok for me...if the barking goes on too long or she just keeps going I have a squirt bottle and now I don't even have to squirt..she knows!!! I would say "ENOUGH" and give one squirt.....she got a bit upset and acted afraid for awhile..but now she is fine!!! You do have to be ALPHA dog with a chi...the little size makes them want to rule !!!! She has been the greatest.....easiest dog I EVER paper trained....and now she has helped teach Lil Bit to use the paper, too.!!! Good Luck!!!! |

Hi: We have 2 chi's, one is prox 4 lbs. the other about 5 lbs. both males. My family has always had chihuahuas as far back as I can remember. In fact, everyone was surprised when I adopted my yorkie girl. A chi will be yappy, if you allow it. They will be snappy, again, if you allow it. Its all in how you train them. Yes, they will let you know if anyone is near your door, your window, etc.. but I have always found that a plus.. Each Chi had their own personality (bashful, friendly, overbearing, dominent, playful..so on) but the one common trait all our Chi's had was loyalty. They become extremely attached to their owners and you get the feeling that somehow these dogs will not go on living without you (which, of course, they do). They will truly go on to be a loving companion. |
1 Attachment(s) My daughter has OP which stands for Optimus Prime, he's a great dog, he's 7pounds although he wasn't sposed to be. He heards goats and sheep, and is very energetic! He's a barker, but only when he hears something outside, otherwise he talks with his whines if that makes sense. He is super smart and so fun. I prefer my Yorkie cuz she's more laid back but OP is perfect for my daughter and her young crowd (Twenty-somethings). |
1 Attachment(s) I had (he moved to Brazil with my parents :() a chihuahua mix. He was 2 when we got hi (about a year ago) so sweet but was definetly a barker, very tough little guy but verry affectionate with us. He was just wonderful with Mojo, never ever they fight...i miss him so much:( here is a pic of him |
