Anyone have a Pug? Hello all! My parents have a pug and they like to keep him shaved because of his shedding, well the last 2 times I have been the one who does his grooming, the first time mom asked me if I wanted any money for doing this and I felt bad even thinking to take her money, so I said no, dont worry about it, well I just shaved him today and gave him his bath, etc... and it took me almost 2 hours to do him, I even went and picked him up from there house, took him to my house to groom him, and then when I was done I took him back home to my parents, this time she did not offer to pay me anything. I was a little disapointed, I figured she would just "know" and slip me some cash for doing this. Now I think she is going to expect me to do his grooming. I dont know why they want him shaved anyways, do any of you know anyone who has there pug shaved? UGH! What should I do? |
Well, my daughter has been begging me for a pug. I think they are precious. Now, you can handle this situation 1 of 2 ways. 1st, the next time mom wants you to do her dog, tell her up front...it takes 2 hours to do him, either pay XXX amount or fill up my gas tank. OOOOOOR, you can think of it this way...you're mother spent 18 +/- years raising you, giving you everything you've ever needed (at least the necessities). Do you really want her to pay for these services? When my mom asks me to do her malt, Lily, I never expect a payment. It's the least that I can do after all she's done for me. ;) |
and I feel the same way, thats why I told her not to worry about it, but i do think she could help pay for the shampoo, I use tropiclean and it's almost $10 a bottle, plus the mist condioning spray is another $10/bottle. I dont know, I guess I will just see what happenes, I dont mind grooming him, he is a pretty laid back dog, and he is comfy with me, when she was taken him to the groomers, she would leave trimming marks on him. |

As for the PUG, I don't have one, but they seem to be a super duper popular breed in my family. 5 of my family members have Pugs. I ***can't stand*** them. I also can't stand most of my family  None of them are shaved. I can't imagine trying to shave one. Isn't it difficult since they have so much fur and such a thick undercoat? I agree w/ Kimberley's advice about asking mommy to pick up the shampoo. That way neither you or your mom will feel like you're being rude or whatever. |
I have never heard of a pug being shaved. |
I have a pug and I do not shave him. As long as you are good about brushing out his coat he shouldn't need to be. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my pug. He is so sweet. He barely barks and when he does it doesn't hurt my ears. He was easy to potty train. He listens and behaves well. My pug has no interest in leaving the yard, and comes when I call him. Pugs were breed for nothing more than to be companions. They love everyone in the family and they can't get enough loving. Bailey is a great little dog and one of the best pets for the whole family because they are so sturdy and have a good personality. |
I am a human hairdresser and have this problem sometimes. Of course i never charge my parents but they always buy nice bits of shopping for my kids (biscuits, crisps etc) thru out the year as their way of thanks. But then it comes to my sister in laws and they expect it done for nothing too and they have colours sometimes 3 and of course they also expect me to have them in stock already and they never offer to pay. Then you have friends who think they shouldnt have to pay too. Well eventually you have to harden and realise this is a job not a charity. The only people who get it free now is blood family or occasionly friends on their birthday :D |
I don't have pugs but my Mom has two of them. I can't imagine trying to shave them. They do shed something awful though. |
I agree with you txshopper...I would NEVER charge my parents for anything...and wouldn't take money if they offered. My parents have been very good to me , my skin and fur babies. My parents watch Sadie Mae for me everyday when I am at work. I feel I should do more for them.. Are you a dog groomer? Maybe Mom could buy her own shampoo and conditioner and leave it with you.. |
