I have NO idea how to cook, well only like scrambled eggs or something small like that, but i was wondering, how in the world did ya'll learn how to cook? do you have any tips or advice.. did you go to a class, read a book? i want to learn how to cook for me and my hubby so we don't have to live off fast food for the rest of our lives! :) |
Got a better idea...Teach HUBBY to cook. No ? :p |
Why would you want to do that??? Sorry, can't help ya, all I do is burn. :D :D :D Good Luck to you, They are going to tell you to start of with good pots and pans. I don't know why, mine are in the trash. :p :p :p But I do hope you have fun learning, cooking just isn't for me. :2hearts2: |
Nobody ever taught me to cook, i just tried things and learned thru my mistakes :D lots of them  |
My grate grandma showed me... and I picked it up from there. I would try getting a cook book and go STEP BY step on what it says to do..until you get really good and you can make up your own recipes. Before I came to germany, I was studding to be a chef, so I love cooking. If you need Help on something, let me know. |

Seriously...I have several cook books...that's how I learned. |
Buy a good cook book. If you go to the Kraft website, and sign up, they will send you a book I think its 6 times a year with recipies. They are usually very simple recipies. It's Free www.kraftfoods.com/connect |
hello, I've been cooking for over thirty years and am still learning. I would go and get a cookbook and try some new recipes and some would end up in the trash. Then I found a book by Cooks Illustrated and found out that they try making every recipe every which way they can to see which way tastes best. They do all the mistakes for you. I then found out that they have a magazine out, a tv show, and a web site also. It cost $25 to join there web site for a year. Some of their recipes are not low fat, but they just came out with there first low fat book called "The Best Light Recipe" which I'm in the process of trying out now. I've tried a few and the family likes them, and there picky. I also like all the "Cooking Light"magazines and books, there all based on low fat recipes. Sorry so long, but cooking is one of my hobbies. |
I want to learn to cook too. Better yet, I want to learn how to have the patience to cook ;) |
Check out your local community college or adult school and see if they have any cooking classes available. If not, simple cook books with illustrations are great! Or, go to www.foodtv.com and see Rachel Ray's recipes. Most of hers are pretty easy to make. Good luck to you! I learned cooking from my mom. She used to make me help her out in the kitchen. She'd have me chop, mix, stir, etc. I used to moan and groan about it. It wasn't until I left home for college that I truly appreciate it. Thanks Mom! :) |
Grab 1 of Rachael Ray's 30 minute meals books. Thry r awsome.Have u watched the food channel? THAT STATION IS A GOOD Start too. |

he does cook for me, but i feel awful! :) i'd like him to come home and me be able to say, hunny dinner's ready! :p |
I come from a huge Mexican family, so I basically grew up in the kitchen with my mom and Grandma. Now that I am older I love it. I would say most of what I learned, I learned from watching. Thats really the best thing I can advise. That and just try stuff out. I bet you'd really surprise yourself. I know I have a few times! I always wonder about how certain dishes are made and just think about the steps it would take. Then just take one at a time and it's usually a lot easier than you might think! :D |
I'd be rich if I had learned to cook or even liked to cook! My husband use to say that when my daughter was little if she ver went to a friends house and they all sat down to a home cooked meal she wouldn't know what was going on! |
watch the food channel that is what i do...then if something looks good I get on line and print the receipe and its all down hill from there. I try to stick with things that look easy and not to difficult. Crock pots are nice also for easy recipes. Just throw everything in there and turn it on...it almost always turns out great! |
Just read a cookbook and you should be able to get it! Just follow the step by step instructions and you should be able to cook anything! Start with something easy and then you can work your way up! |

There ya go...if you can read, you can cook...the above is exactly how I learned to cook. Or you can pm mustangbee...she has some great recipes... |
I love to cook. My grandmother taught me somethings, but for the most part I just experiment. They don't all succeed. |

If you don't have someone to show you the ropes. I would suggest buying a good cookbook or maybe taking a class. My mom & my grandmother taught me a lot about cooking. I also have lots of cookbooks. |
just remember the more you cook, the better yu will get at it... im sure you will do just fine....its acutally fun |

I learned watching and helping my mom when I was young, I like to cook. I think the food channel is a good idea, and then just print out recipes off of www.foodtv.com Try the basics.. 30 min meals, Semi Homemade, Paula Deans show, are some good ones, Not to Over the top. like Emeril. BAM! |
Trial and error along with good recipes and lessons from my mom, grandma and mother-in-law. It just takes a lot of practice and believe me I'm still learning. I tried my hand at pesto sauce once that my hubby and his brother forced down. I think that was my only mistake bad enough that was bad enough that they gag when they hear the word pesto. They'll give me a hard time about that until the day I die. It was so bad I didn't even eat it. Just keep a bag of frozen Bertolli pasta or something simple like that that you can make in 10-20 minutes just in case things go wrong. You'll get it! ;) |

I have a great Paula Deen & Sons cookbook. I use it all the time. It's great. |

I LOVE Paula Deans and her southern accent! It's totally charming! "Y'all just come n' enjoy yourself in my kitchen." Lol. Mmmmm....just love her love her love her and her food. :D :D |
I love to cook (just hate cleaning up the mess afterward). My suggestion is to get a cookbook or a recipe and follow it exactly as it says. Find something simple at first. You can also check out some cooking shows and try making something easy that they make on the show |
