Yesterday there was a kind of demonstration against the cruelty from the dogbreeder in the link from my startpost. At first only the sick dogs (out of 100 dogs) were taken away and the owner refused to give up the last 30 dogs he had. But after many people gathered and news-media condemned him, he agreed to give up all his dogs. Unfortunately he still sold around 10 dogs to some restaurant owners. Here are some pictures from the last dogs that were saved. 1 2 I am pleased these dogs are saved from a horrible death by sickness or worse, and happy they will be cured. Hopefully they can spend the rest of their lives with someone who cares for them. I hope there will be a change in the law, so that these things will be a thing of the past soon. Hopefully dog meat will gradually die out in Korea. Thank you guys for your interest and support! |
Oh GOOD !! seeing them in those pictures really brings it home how awful dog consumption really is....How can anyone do that ?...they are such ...cute cute...innocent pets...I just can't imagine anyone wanting to eat dog meat....but it's fantastic that people are taking a stand on this practice ! That really was good to read that that jerk got nailed.... it may take baby steps to stop this - but they really add up when people band together. now...what about the Restaurant Owners ? - they need to be stopped from buying those poor dogs....are people boycotting where they sell it ? |
I signed it. I was more than happy to sign that. I can't even express how horrified I am. My daughter and I looked at the pictures and read the story. My girls dad was in the army stationed in Korea and yes it does go on there. They also prefer the younger ones. They say they are more tender and tastier..I'm sorry but I can't stomache that at all. You can go to a meat store and pick out your puppy. Some of the owners cut out their tongues so they can't bark anymore. I think it's in China ..not positive but pretty sure..they are educating people about dogs. Showing them that they are pets with feelings and not food. They are raised this way in other countries and don't see the wrong in this. The biggest reason this happens in some countries is you will find no wildlife..there isn't cows..they are overcrowded and have no place to keep animals that are to be eaten so they choose to eat dogs. I am glad this is being stopped and hope that something can be done to help. |
i have my own mixed feelings about this topic, most of which hinges on the misunderstanding and ignorance of other cultures. i wonder, if you grew up on a farm and had a pet pig, would that deter you from eating pork? if you had a pet rat, would that deter you from leaving poison out for outside rats that invade your home? if you have ever visited a slaughter house and saw the conditions under which cattle, pigs, sheep, lamb, chicken, etc were kept then slaughtered, would it deter you from eating meat, boil eggs, wear leather shoes, carry leather purses, bundle in a suede jacket? if the dogs that were consumed as food were bred to be consumed as food, and not bred as pets would that make a difference? if the origin of the dog was to be bred and consumed as food (the chow-chow is a perfect example, in their country of origin, some were bred for guarding, some for hunting, some as food) would that make a difference? if dogs were not as cute as they are and if you've never had one as a pet, would you be concerned about their feelings? 'cause doubt anyone who's feasting on a nice cut of veal frets over the anxiety and fear of a baby cow as it runs, cries, and screams while being led down chamber to a smaller chamber until the chamber restricts any viable movement and a large blade severs its head from its body. now, i'm not saying all of this because i plan to take my yorkie down the street to the nearest butcher, but i am concerned that some people take their subjective opinions bred from their own cultures and critize the opinions and practices of other cultures because it differs and demand that the other culture alters their practices to american sensibilities. animal cruelty is animal cruelty... whether it's done to dogs, cats, cattle or chicken. hanging and bleeding a live chicken from a pole in preparation for slaughter would disgust me as much as the same being done to a live dog. |
One word SICK Soory, but I don't feel so good now, that was gross. :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown |

I agree with Hunnie bunny and like I said before, that's why I have been a vegetarian for 14 years. I don't buy or wear any animal products because I love all animals too much. After seeing inside slaughter houses and living on my sisters farm for years, I just can't get it outta my head. Again, I don't expect everyone to be veggies, but there are more humane ways of doing things and the way I have seen those dogs treated in Korea first hand sickens me. |
I am sorry but there are some customs that shouldn't be upheld. In some countries there are alot of things they do that I don't agree with just as in other countries there are things we do that aren't agreed with. I am very open minded but there are just some things that I don't think are right. I also don't beleive that god put all animals on this earth for consumption. Yes he gave us cows, pigs, chickens, fish ect. all of us are part of the food chain..no where on there does it say humans eat dogs, cats, lions, tigers, monkeys ect..some countries beleive in eating monkeys..they put these tiny baby monkeys in a center of a table..it's alive then the people eating all have hammers and they all tap the monkey on the head til it slowly dies..you don't want a quick death because it makes the meat bad so they slowly kill the baby monkey by hitting it on the head with a small hammer..should i uphold this custom? I could tell you mmore customs that would make your stomache turn..should i uphold them all? right is right and wrong is wrong.. |
but are you then protesting against the custom of consuming monkeys? or the method by which they are slaughtered for consumption? like i said, animal cruelty is animal cruelty. if a chicken was on the same table and slaughtered, i would be as outraged as if the monkey was on the table. but i don't think it's my right, as an outsider to the custom to tell someone else, it's wrong to eat monkey, even if i wouldn't do it myself. something to consider... many domestic slaughterhouses, in the process of slaughtering the livestock, will stun the animal so it's unconscious then hang it by it's hind legs and slit its main artery (ie throat), draining the animal of its blood as it dies. stunning the animal before the kill was considered more humane. however, in the Jewish and Muslim custom, it's against religious laws to consume animals that's unconscious prior to the slaughter. so the animal must be conscious at the point of death. which means hanging a live conscious pig upside down, slit its throat, allowing it to die from the bleeding then continue the meat processing. something to consider the next time one buys "kosher meat". if this method of meat processing disgusts you, shall you protest and tell people of Jewish and Muslim religions they cannot have meat prepared as required by their religious laws? do you think it's within your right to do so? |

i too am just here to state my opinion. i am merely stating examples to reinforce my opinion. i don't think it's ever acceptable to treat animals cruelly even if it's being slaughtered. but i may not like the idea of dogs being bred for consumption, but i don't think people of one cultural bias should tell people of other cultures what's an acceptable or not acceptable custom. i may object to how it's done, but i don't think it's my right for me to tell others what they can or cannot eat if it's perfectly legal in the other country. i think it's up to the people within that country and within that culture to determine what's socially and culturally acceptable for themselves. just my humble opinion, feel free to object, but to each her/his own. |

just want to barf right now... im sick to my stomach.... |
I also wanted to add to my last post..I still think it's gross and would never never do that..i think everyone deserves their customs to a certain degree..but i can and will say it's GROSS. |
seriously, i hope you all remember the comments you've made here the next time you bite into a hamburger, gnaw on a chicken leg, carry around your animal skin purse, and walk in your leather shoes. |
