Twin Towers Can anyone tell me if a proper memorial has been put up for those who lost their lives in the Twin Towers on 9/11? Living in England, we only get to see and hear small bits of information and I saw a programme on TV last night that made me wonder. What have they decided to build to replace the towers? Thanks |
There is not a memorial built yet. The city has selected a design, but some of the families aren't happy with what was chosen. I haven't seen a picture or drawing depicting it....but from what I understand....there are which would list the names of the deceased will be below ground level, not visable from the street. The area above will be a park like atmosphere. That's what the families are protesting..... |
This whole thing is big news here. The developer has selected his design and is going forward with it. It's a glass tower that comes to a point. That will be the memorial and construction starts next month. There are 3 other buildings to be built on the site and the city is fighting with the developer over them. They don't think he has enough money to build the memorial so they want to pay for it, but only if they get input on the design. He won't budge, says he is doing it his way. I know he has the right to develop his property however he wants, but even though that land "belongs" to him legally it also belongs to our nation as a whole. My friend's brother died in the world trade center and it's more than just a building to people like her. It is a disgrace how NYC has handled the entire thing. |
I lost a a dear friend in the towers, and I am part of the group that is protesting the approved memorial. We feel that our loved ones names should be seen not hidden under ground and they should be shown respect. I wish they would use the space for a park and not place a building of any kind on it. I am firm believe that the area is a burial place for our loved ones and is sacred. |
Thanks...we don't get to hear much about how it's all going over here in England, we just get programmes that show what happened on the day which is very sad. It would be nice to have programmes that show whats happening now. |
They keep showing programs here to that show the towers falling. I personnally think is very disrespectfull to the victims families. Its like lossing your loved on over and over. When it comes on TV, I make sure the the channel changes, I can't stand to watch it. Heck I saw it when it happened and remember it like it was yesterday, but you know news people they think you need to see over and over. |

I did not know the the memorial for Princess Diana was always closed. It is one of many things on my list of "Things to See or Do" while I am on vacation in England next year. |
The programme we saw yesterday on TV said that after it happened the authorities were telling people that anyone who was photographed falling from the Towers did not jump but were blown from the building, is this correct, because I can only imagine how terrible it must have been for those poor people and it must have taken alot of courage to have jumped. |
