Help me if you can!!! This may be a dumb question - but it is off topic - and I know there are a lot of great housekeepers here. What would be the best cleaning solution to get for white woodwork, doors, etc. (I have tons of this in my house - and it needs cleaning!!!) I have tried cleaning with different things, but nothing really removes fingerprints, grease, etc. My woodwork, doors, etc. are a painted enamel...... I would appreciate any ideas!!!!!! Carol Jean |
What about Swiffer wet? The handle is long enough to reach molding and walls without killing your back. I have cleaned my baseboards with it and it did a great job, all the baseboards in the house are white. I did not have to bend over, just ran it along the boards sideways.... |

All my doors are white as well and they are painted. Is that the same as enamel? I rarely clean mine out as I just vacuum the crevices to take out the dirt. However, my doors leading outside are glass with white borders and there is always lots of build-up in the edges (exterior). I clean just about everything now with just water with a bit of vinegar 10:1 (wood floors, countertops, tiles, etc) so that is what I use on my doors as well. Dunno how much build up of grease you have but see if that works. |
Hi I also have white woodwork, doors, and baseboard. I clean all of mine with 409........it doesn't hurt the paint and cleans everything.....good luck! :) |
Diluted white vinegar is what i use on my white kitchen cupboards :D |
I use bleach mixed with a little water. Another cleaner that is wonderfullll...Mr Clean Magic Easer. That thing has gotten stuff off that I thought was there forever. I used it on my doors....no more black on the side of the door. |
Dawn Dish soap is a great grease remover and baking soda is a nice scrubber |
I use soft scrub and oxiclean. |

I can't thank you enough for all your replies. I am going to try all your ideas ---one at a time -- Hopefully one will do the job. I just cleaned all my baseboards (molding) on my hands and knees with a damp cloth. The dirt/dust comes off of them easy. My problems are more with the areas - where just opening and closing things - Cupboards --and handling things - doors - etc. get that buildup of fingerprints, cooking grease, smoke, furnace whatever, etc. I don't mind washing all my woodwork and doors, etc. -- but I want something that will clean them and take off all the stuff that builds up over time. I have cleaned them often - but really have just wasted my time. White trim all over is a lot of extra work - compared to stained wood. But we have to keep things clean - right? Anyway - I am going to try anything and everything anyone mentions. Thanks again! Carol Jean |

The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is wonderful!! It'll take fingerprints off the wall, crayons too. I've used it to clean my front door. I love this product. Anyone with white walls should use this. |
