Medical (Human) question?? Has anyone here ever had a Laparoscopy? If so how bad was it,, during and after? I have to have it March 24th. Female issues... and they did an external and internal ultra sound and found a " lump" So this is the next step... just wondering if anyone has had one before, It's the 3 incisions in the tummy, with a camera, YIKES, that frightens me... :( Laparoscopy is a commonly performed procedure to examine the abdominal or pelvic organs. Investigations, and some keyhole surgery procedures, can be performed with laparoscopy where in the past the abdomen would have to be opened in an operation known as a laparotomy. |
Had this done years ago with no problems. Had it done on Friday and by Sunday was doing house work and went to work on Monday. |

Been there, done that, have the scar ;) The waiting is scarier than the procedure. The only after problem....they put gas in you to bloat up your tummy....afterward that gas can move into a joint...and it's not comfortable. After I'd these done a couple of times....one nurse finally told me to drink lots of carbonated beverages and burp to get it out. It tastes kind of mediciney, but it worked. When ya first get home, you'll just be sleepy. Btw, your lump may not be a LUMP at all. You can get cysts on your ovaries....they're water filled and they just pop those or drain them... I hoping they don't "find" anything, RR, it's really probably nothing...I'll be thinking of ya ;) |
OH My, No clue, but here's some sites I found. http://www.laparoscopy.com/ http://www.ivf.com/laprscpy.html http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/health_ad...aparoscopy.htm I will keep you in my Thoughts & Prayers. |
Rhonda, I have had a laproscopic procedure done before. It was a few years ago, but I didn't have any problems. It was a simple procedure and didn't take very long. If I remember correctly, there was one incision in the belly button and one beside it. They were very small. You will be fine! |
I have had several done....my belly looks like a road map..Ha ha ha Anyways I was fine after a couple days. No problems at all. I think it is just worring about it all is the worst part. Good Luck. |

I've had it done 3 times and it's no big deal. The first day I was a little sore, but they gave me pain medicine so I felt fine when I took it. Let us know how it goes!! I'll be praying for you!!  |
Wow, thanks guys for the info, everyone I talk to is " what?" never heard of it. So my next question is... IF if is a cyst or fibroid,, can they get a bioposy or do something about it then, or is this just exploratory? I go to the Dr. on Tues. to ask questions,, like this, but you guys can tell me now. ;) |

I'll survive! :D |
Never had it done but wanted to send you luck and positive thoughts...The waiting sounds like the worst part...Big Hug |
Wishing you luck. I have had numerous cysts, that were treated with hormones. I think if it is small enough they can be removed at this time too. |

I had my gall bladder removed about a 1 1/2 years ago. Not sure if this was the medical terms for the surgery that they performed. But, I do have a scar at my belly button, one right where my bra comes, and two on my side. I was a little sore for a few days but, had no lingering effects. Good Luck and keep us posted. I also had a fibroid removed a little over a year ago but this procedure was not used for that. |

You know dang good and well that mess would never, ever be allowed in your house. Shoot, we couldn't get ya to sleep....worrying 'bout the carpet |
I had a cyst removed from my overy the size of a grapefruit about 5 years ago. The scars are pretty much non exsistant, one deep in my belly button and two real down low, below my bikini line. I was sore for a day or two but bounced back quickly! Keep a pillow close by after you get home from your surgery incase you have to cough or laugh. I would sit up and "hug" the pillow. My sister and dad both had laproscopic surgery in the same year and they both said that the pillow trick was a life saver! Good luck... you'll do just fine! |
Just had to tell you guys thanks, I had the first good nights sleep last night, after you guys set me at ease. I am one of those people that doesn't let things bother me during the day,and seems to be handling things well, THEN I go to bed and dwell on them, and let my mind go crazy. But since you guys let me know how unstressful this procedure is,and how many of you have had it, with NO BAD results. I slept like a YORKIE last night. lol Thanks Again. Rhonda ;) |
It's a very simple procedure with minimal pain for the exact same thing Claire mentioned only I had one on each side...The recovery time is so fast I was amazed. |
I had the opp many years ago when they were looking for the cause of my infertility with no probs and only a small scar that now I am fatter does not show at all. Pleased to say I went on to have two wonderfull children. :) Good luck and don't worry. |
I consider myself a professional at all of these surgeries! I have had 5 laparoscopies, an ovary removed, countless laser surgeries and by far the laparoscopy is the easiest as far as pain, recovery time. You will be surprised at how good you feel in a short amount of time. I hope everything is okay :) |
Laparoscopies are wonderful. They just make small holes in your stomach - go in - fill your abdomen up with air (this is called creating a theater) - go in with a camera and see what's going on. How easy can it get??? I had a laparoscopic cholecystectomy.....meaning they removed my gallbladder this way. They actually went in and brought it out through one of these small holes. I had this operation on Wednesday and went swimming on Saturday. I had almost no discomfort. Prior to this, having your gallbladder removed was one of the worst surgeries imaginable. They made a huge cut across your abdomen - cutting through muscles, etc., and the recovery was extremely longlasting and painful. Was I lucky or what! Don't worry about having this done. Just be very very glad that they do it. It's really just an outpatient procedure... Sometimes though during and after a laparoscopy - if they find any problems they do take care of them and do whatever surgery is necessary right then. But you should be told that this might happen in advance. Good luck - don't worry! Carol Jean |

I was one of the unlucky ones. I had to spend the night in the hospital. The anesthesia(sp) made me sick. I was pucking bile. Gross! Other than that it was a breeze. |
