Memory foam mattress I am searching for a new mattress for my tired back. I have so much raving about the memory foam mattresses. Does anyone have one and are they as good as they say. If you have one, how long have you had it and how has it held up. I am going shopping this week. Thanks. |
Is this the same as a temperpetic (sp) mattress? If so, that is what we are looking at getting too. Can't wait to hear what people have to say! |
My dad is in the mattress business and he thinks they are pretty good but make you feel warm. I think a bed with memory foam on top is ideal. |
I have a memory foam and I LOVE IT!! I've only had it about 4 months so I can't really help with the holding up part, but my hubby has a ruptured disc in his back and it has worked wonders. I just sink into my bed and the best thing is that when hubby moves at night I no longer feel every little movement.. :D |

My hubby and I shopped for a new bed for months before selecting the memory foam bed - Swedish TempurPedic (sp?). We absolutely love it!!! It is wonderful, you just sink into heaven when you lay down. We also heard that it made you hot - and believe me, I'm post menopausal and if it were hot, I'd know it and it doesn't bother me in the least - but I have read where it does bother some people. Everyone that I know that has it however, does not complain that it makes them hot. We looked for a long long time and tested out the various beds SEVERAL times. We looked at the gel bed - you might want to check the gel beds out, we really liked them too and we also tested the select comfort (air) bed, as well has many many many conventional mattresses. Money was no object - no we are not rich, but we had come into some unexpected money and decided we would buy our dream bed. Plus, my husband has many many very serious health problems, and has to spend lots of time in bed, so we wanted the best bed we could find. We also got the adjustable frame - both the head and foot raise and lower - but this significantly raises the cost of the bed. However, my husband has to sleep with the head of the bed raised some of the time - so this meant that he could actually sleep in the bed during these times, as opposed to sleeping in the recliner. I would highly recommend the memory foam bed. One thing though, is the colder the foam gets, the harder it is and conversly, the warmer it is, the softer the foam is. I've read that some people use a heated mattress pad to make the foam softer. If you like to sleep with your room very very cold, then it may be a little hard. The one nice thing about the TemprPedic is that it has a 30 day (maybe longer???) guarantee where you can return it if you don't like it. Also, when you first get it home, it smells for a few days. The smell does go away, but if you are sensitive to smells, you may not like that for a few days. |

I would say however, that the memory foam bed (full bed, not the topper) completely removes any movement you feel from your partner. It is like a miracle for me because my hubby has restless leg syndrome and it used to drive me batty!!! |
We have one! We got it back in June. My back has never felt sooooo good. We had a Water Bed, I told my husband it had to go!!! Moving him out of the 70's wasn't easy!!   LOL, I told him Grandma's & Grandpa's Dont sleep on Water Beds! I just love my bed now. My husband built the frame for it, I just love it!!! :D :D :D |

I think it would work on any type of frame - I don't think the frame has anything to do with it - it is the actual foam mattress that absorbs the movement. The only thing about the frame is that it has to be sturdy because the foam mattress is heavier than a conventional mattress. |
Thanks...I wondered about the movement part because my husband is the kind that un-makes the whole bed when he sleeps but I must be a light sleeper because any little movement wakes me up. |
Yes, we are on a regular frame.. I don't think that the frame has anything to do with it... It's just the way to mattress to made. It is amazing and I have never slept better at night I will tell you that. |

Do you put sheets on it like a regular mattress? I have dust mite covers on mine regular mattress.... Francie |
Hi! We just purchased a foam topped mattress from King Koil and we LOVE IT. :D I had a pillow-top before that La_Man did not care for due to being too soft and he had a Chinese bed (which basically is a cement block covered in fabric - IT WAS HARD lol sorry baby I just could not resist  ). So we got this one and we both love it!!! We sleep like babies nightly and we feel no added heat or coolneess. And yeah, our mattress requires deep pocketed sheets. :D Good luck!!! |
Our youngest son bought one about a year or so ago and he hates it. He says that it is too warm for him and he can't get a good night sleep....I told him maybe get a different girl friend..Ha Ha Ha :p ooopppsssssseeee did I say that on here.... |

For those of you that have a memory foam/ temperpetic, where did you get yours? Did you order it off an infomercial/online or buy it from a store? Anything special that you need to buy for it? Sheets, frame, etc. Any down falls to having on or anything the salesperson said that you need to do for special care of it? Like having to turn it, flip it, stains, cleaning, etc. Thanks! |

I admit it I am BAD............... |
We bought it from a local independent dealer. The store had the air bed also as well as things like a few hospital beds and the like. It's sorta like a therapeutic bed store  Anyway, I don't think I would have bought it online - although my mom bought a memory foam bed from QVC and she just loves it. I knew that if we didn't like it and wanted to return it, there would be no problems with a local dealer - but we wouldn't give it up for the world!!! There's nothing special that you need, everything fits, just like a regular bed - we did put a special waterproof mattress cover on it (it's not like plastic - it's hard to explain - it looks like cloth, but is waterproof) because we have 2 dogs in bed with us and although they've never peed on the bed, they have occasionally thrown up!!! Regular bed sheets should fit it just fine. We do have to have special sheets, but only because we got the adjustable frame where the head and foot raises, so we have a split king mattress (I didn't want to have to sleep raised up just because my husband needed/wanted to sleep with the head of the bed raised and visa versa) - so we have 2 twin extra long mattresses to make a split king sized bed, and the sheets are hard to find. We use a regular king size top sheet - so we always have to buy the sheets separately. Similarly, we had to buy twin XL waterproof mattress covers - but the store where we bought the bed, sold the covers. |
That makes sense to buy from a local dealer. I have not decided which one I want though - guess I better be doing some in store testing on them!!!! I like the idea of the air bed, but I have heard good things about the temperpetic/memory foam beds. - Although, I am very hot natured, so I don't know how that would work - I guess with a 30 day guantee, that wouldn't be bad! I think in a month you pretty much know if it will be right for you. Thanks for all the help! |
Well, I broke bad and ordered one. It will be delivered Wednesday the 8th with the new bedroom furniture. I am a trade off type person, traded my old bedromm set for some hardwood floor installation. Got a good deal too. So, we will have to let you know how it goes...Thanks for all the advice. Laying on one in the middle of the store, albeit embarrassing, was incredible. Can't wait to try it out!! |
Oh goodie! I bet you will love it! I can't wait to hear what you think of it! |
