Who watched, Dealing Dogs on HBO last night? Wondering who watched it and what you thought? It was unbelievable to me, I learned alot, I had no idea that this is how these research places got their dogs.. he had approx. 600 dogs at all times in his kennel ( CC Baird) and he would buy them from strangers and flea markets for 20.00 a dog and sell to research for 250.00. An Animal Rights Activest got in and worked there for 6 months filming and documenting everything in the end the place is closed he has hundreds of counts against him, his wife and daughters, and has already paid over 250,000.oo in fines and prison term pending. There were some seens just unbelievable to watch. One with a little black cocker,, and another mix dog, that I just cant get it out of my mind, and the thought of that guy being an activest having to work there and see that for 6 months, I give him so much credit, I can not imagine how horrible that would be , to NOT be able to say anything and let it happen, but he did what he had to do,and it paid off in the end. That hell hole is now shut down. If you get the chance watch it. |
I read about it on here and wanted to watch but we don't have HBO! Thanks for the recap! I can't even imagine what those poor dogs went through and I am glad had the stomach to expose this and bring some justice! |
I cried through the whole documentary...Those were horrifying images, and just seeing what those poor dogs go through every single day of their lives breaks my heart and makes me want to do something about it...I could NOT have done what "Pete" did...He had to go in there 6 days a week for 6 months and pretend to be one of those people. Poor guy, I bet it was hard to contain himself, but he knew the investigation depended on him. That dog that got shot in the head...That was horrible!!! All those dogs with those open wounds dying and suffering...And when they were throwing them in that stuff that burned them...So horrible...We have to shut down these places like this. Watching this show makes you want to go out and do something! |
I'm so glad they shut this place down...But there are many more like it, and unfortunately, they're still thriving...How do we shut them down? |
i saw the end of it... and dvr'd the repeat at 1am to watch later... but it was heartbreaking and really disappointing on how many YEARS it took to take those animals out of a place there was proven abuse... if it was kids or something it would have been SAME DAY i wanted to watch it even tho it upset me.. i recently found out my puppy came from a really really bad breeder/broker...supposidly one of the worst brokers in the country so i wanted to educate myself its just unbelievable |
I know it was hard to watch, yet very eye opening, I actually had no idea that was how research places got their dogs. I know alot of people say they can't watch things like that, I know its hard, but that is what gets us aware, and FIRED UP, like others said, once you see it with your own eyes, You want to do something about it, you want to make a difference. You want it to stop. I give that Pete so much credit, for being able to deal with that and those MONSTERS, which is exactly what they ALL are, and someday I know,,they will get theirs! I have to believe that. :( |
I watched it and felt so, so bad for those animals. I wish they'd told how many dogs are shipped out per week. Pete did say some of those animals were there the entire time he was there. Wonder what the criteria was for selling one vs another? I would guess a healthy animal would be preferred. Wish someone had guess estimated what this place's annual profit was. 250.00 per dog could add up pretty quickly. My understanding is the USDA has never had enough investigators for their organization. This includes investigators for the meat (and meat processing plants) for that fat steak you find in the grocery store. I wonder how many if any of the class B sellers do operate within USDA guidelines. The thought of any animal being used for research probably unsettles most of us, but it is done. If the USDA is not going to enforce their policies strigently, I'm betting there are very, very few operating humanely.....sigh. I think it's sad that so many people brought animals to that flea market. I noticed many were hounds. I would not be surprised to find out these dogs were either lost hunting dogs or hunting dogs who were more or less being "retired". At the flea market, one seller said he had 25 or so dogs at home....my immediate thought....the guy's a hunter and what he doesn't want goes to the flea market :( I am not dissing hunters just an observation. That lady who voiced concern....'oh this could be someone's pet, yada, yada, yada was the closest to having a conscience and even then the $$ won out  I admit I closed my eyes when I realized they were going to shoot the cocker mix :( Va Tech is within 4 hours of me. They have a veterinary program. Wonder where they get their dogs? Just some rambling thoughts....I agree justice moved very, very slow...... |
I missed it but am going to watch it with a BIG BOX of Kleenex :( I hope everyone takes the time to see this and people finally start waking up to this monster problem in our country.... Its a problem in other countries but we need to set THIS one straight first....this should NOT be happening :( |
This really was an eye opener...I mean, we all know about animal abuse and cruelty and neglect, but there's nothing like actually seeing it happen. It was terrible...How can we stop this? It took so long to shut martin creek kennels down, but at least it got shut down and hopefully for good! It's supposed to be the biggest, but I'm sure there's many more large kennels like this. I mean, these people were selling their pets, stolen pets, found pets to these people for even $10?!?! These innocent doggies weren't given ANY value at all! How could people be sooo freaking cruel just for a couple of bucks?? What could they possibly spend those $10-$20 on? Nothing important, I'm sure of that. |

I thought the same....those people must need 10-20 pretty dang bad... |
The 2 parts I can't stop thinkin about of course, the Cocker Spaniel of course, ( Villette you'll lose it, looks like Tessa) And the part where Pete sees the one dog is dying, almost dead, and the other guy wont do anything to end its suffering. How horrible to let that dog suffer ANOTHER night, cause he had to go to an Easter egg hunt.. WTF! |
For anyone that missed the documentary they can read about it at www.dealingdogs.com |

Lengthy article I found. Did enlighten me as to how much $$ CC Baird made..... http://www.arkonline.com/pet_theft_bill2.html |

Did I hear that one woman say,,, " they have paid off their house, by supplying dogs to CC Baird." Did you hear that?? They will all burn in hell! |
Oh yeah, I almost forgot about that! They HAVE to be stealing pets in order to have that many to sell to pay off their house  |
I have to wonder if these buncher people or individuals know what the conditions were like that they were sending these dogs to. I couldn't do it....not only because of the inhumane conditions at the kennel...but just knowing eventually the animal would end up in a research facility would tear at my heart. I guess these people just don't have any compassion. No compassion for animals nor people if they are stealing pets to sell :( I hoping all the people shown last night are recoginized by others in their communities and having a hard time holding their heads up..... |
Can you imagine the # of other Kennels out there that don't get this much attention. This was horrible and disgusting. I think seizing their property was to easy on them, their punishment should have been to eat, sleep, and live in those cages for 6 months at least. :thumbdown :thumbdown |
It was realy tough to watch, these poor dogs eyes are haunting me awful, specialy the dying dog :( . It is unbelievable how a human being can do this, and our goverment allowing this to go on for soo long. Hope these people have to explain their action to their maker some day.... sooner than later |
AND~ don't forget, CC Baird was the minister of that church, can you fricking imagine! What a joke! |
OMG!! I almost forgot about that too! Minister of their town's church...I couldn't believe it...That was just his way of making others think that "oh, he's the minister, he's an upstanding individual in the community" when really he's just trash! How could he stand up there and preach every Sunday knowing what he's doing is soooo wrong! They did say that he resigned as minister of the church, so at least he's not being a hypocrite in front of all those people still. |
Also, they said they only people that worked there were family members of C.C. Baird...The only reason "Pete" got a job there is because he was recommended by people in the community...He would casually bring up in a conversation that he used to work for a kennel. He was putting on a show for these people and he really fooled them...Because Last Chance for Animals did this undercover investigation, C.C. Baird can't do this to animals anymore... |

And is it still pending on CC about prison time? Isn't that what it said at the end? |
Quote:
Oh, I bet he is and in the beginning...even his wife questioned hiring Pete. Guess she had a big ol' told ya so for him. It did say they prosecuted CC, his wife, 2 daughters and their husbands. The civil suit is settled. The criminal suit has not which is where the jail time comes in. I'd be willing to bet since he gave up his property, etc....it'll all be taken into account and there won't be any jail time :( |
Sadly enough, you're probably right about the jail time...I'm sure he won't have to serve time...But what about all those others that worked there, what happened to them? I hope lots of people watched this show..I wonder if there's a way to find out how many viewers there were... |

I was balling like a baby and had to get up and leave the room and compose myself I almost didn't watch all of it. |

Him being a minister absolutely made my stomach turn. I grew up in the Church of Christ and my grandparents have be members of their local Chruch of Christ for 40+ years. It almost made me puke. |
