Gall Bladder being Removed Tomorrow!! Ok, Its been a long time that I have had these pains/symptoms. And tomorrow it (my gall bladder) is finally coming out.. Its a simple procedure and it is even an out patient procedure. I wasn't nervous at all until a few minutes ago, that is! My stomach is in a knot and I'm panicing a bit.. Why??, I know its nothing!! Maybe because I just received two phone calls from people wishing me well tomorrow?? Maybe because someone at work told me how this woman went in to have a baby and they took both her arms and legs off by accident?? Why on earth would she say that?? I know I'll be fine, but I'm a little freaking out right now!! and probably becasue I won't be able to get online to yack with you guys on YT  ;) |
I will be thinking about you. Many prayers going out for you from me and my clan! :getwellso It'll be okay. Just be ready for the gas pains in your shoulders from the gas that they pump into your belly for the laproscopic procedure. I don't mean to scare you, just want you to be ready for it. My doctors didn't warn me about it. When I was waking up in recovery, I remember my shoulders hurting. I asked the nurses why they hurt and they said it was normal. Never would tell me why. I finally found out that it was the gas. The funny thing was that when they tell you that you have to go to the bathroom and walk before you can go home, I went to get up and the nurse was helping me up, so as we all know gas rises. Well...I burped in her face! LMAO I was so embarrassed. Had to get rid of the gas somehow. And they won't tell you that, but it's the best thing you can do...burp or so other body function to get rid of the gas that accumulates in your body. :D Quote:

Thanks Amanda, you are so right no one ever said anything about gas yet?? But at least I know now! Can I ask, how long before you felt good enough to go back to work? I have heard any where from 2 days to 3 weeks (the person who said 3 weeks had complications) |
It is very natural to feel anxious when you are having a medical procedure. I'd worry about you, if you were not worried at all! :p You need to remember that procedures like gallbaldder removal have been done for many many many many years so the docs have lots of scientific technology to draw upon so that it is now a routine procedure. Of course, it is not routine for you though!!! :) Try to think of all the experience that the doctors and nurses have and how well they will take care of you. Take some deep breaths, close your eyes, and try to relax. I'm a nurse and although there is always a risk to any type of surgery, this type of surgery is very routine these days. You need to think about how much it will help you to be calm and how when you are calm, your stress hormones are minimized - when stress is minimized, then healing is maximized. Another thing to think about though, is that a little bit of stress is good - it's called eustress (eu = good) and good stress helps us to get prepared for things that will happen. Good stress keeps us vigilant and you must be vigiliant also, watching the things going on around you before the surgery - be sure things look right and comfortable. Ask LOTS of questions - get all your answers. Good luck - I think everything will be just fine - it is perfectly normal to feel anxious! :) |
The only thing that helps the gas problem is getting rid of it, and applying a heating pad helps a little. Rolling from side to side periodically will help and holding a pillow on your stomach until you can move without aching will help tremendously with support. I was out for most anything for about 4 to 5 days. I could walk and go potty, but nothing much over walking around the house. Nothing outside the house. Make sure to take sweatpants that aren't too tight. Quote:

My mom recently went through this and I was surprised how quickly she recovered. (She is in her early 70s) They did the laproscopic surgery with 3 small incisions which healed pretty quickly. She had the surgery on Thursday morning and after a social weekend was up and almost back to normal the following Monday. She didn't mention any gas problems, but it could be that it just didn't come up in conversation. :p Good luck. I'm sure it will all go well tomorrow. My thoughts will be with you. |
I also had laproscopic surgery 5 years ago. My family would not stop laughing at me because I was burping and farting in my sleep after the surgery! I couldn't help it! Anyway, one thing that I experienced was a sore throat from the tubes. I coughed alot and my throat was itchy. Keep a pillow close by to put over your tummy when you have to cough and drink plenty of fluids. I have no scars at all from the surgery! It's amazing! I was up after 1 day, walking around again and back to work after 7 days. I took 7 days off of work because at the time I worked a very fast paced job and I was running up and down stairs at work all day. Hope tomorrow goes by quick and you are up and back on YT very soon! I'll be thinking of you tomorrow! |
surgery Best wishes to you tomorrow...I know you will be glad to get it out and over with.. |

You'll Be In Our Prayers :rose: We are wishing you a speedy recovery. |
Good luck! I had mine out about 15 years ago and there was no laproscope then. You should be on your feet in no time. RE: the arm and leg thing...yes, it's true but it wasn't an accident...she had some kind of infection that required that surgery be done. You'll be fine...just keep good thoughts about getting back home to your babies :) |
I'll be thinking about you, Karen honey! Sending positive energy your way, dear!! I am sure all will go very well tomorrow. I hope you have a quick and easy recovery, and be careful with all that leftover gas!! I am hoping you have someone there at home to help you out during your recovery! Take care, sweetie! :p |
