Hundreds of Dead Animals Found in Hampshire County, WV (B2- The Journal, Wednesday, February 1, 2006) Charleston - About 350 dead cats, dogs and other animals have been found in illegal dumps in Hampshire and Hardy counties, the state Division of Natural Resources said Tuesday. More than 250 animal carcasses - including mice, rats, rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, foxes, hawks and deer - were found in a wooded area near Capon Bridge on Monday, said Maj. Jerry Jenkins with the DNR. Most of the animals were cats and dogs. Some were still wearing rabies vaccination and identification tags, indicating they once were someone's pets. Some had been decapitated and a few had intravenous tubsel inserted in their forelegs. About 4,000 pounds of animal carcasses were removed from the Hampshire County site because of potential health and enviromental risks. On Dec. 30, about 100 dead animals were found in the George Washington National Forest in Hardy County. Officials believe the two cases are related. Jenkins said authorities believe they have traced the dumps to facilities in the Fairfax County, VA area. No arrests have been made. "We have some suspects," Jenkins said. "When we started find- ing all these animals with tags on them, it piqued our interest. We're tracing the tags back to the owners and see what they can tell us about them." Such illegal dumping carries a fine of $25,000 a day for each day of the animals were dumped and up to a year in jail, Jenkins said. The DNR, sheriff's departments in Hampshire and Hardy counties, the Fairfax County Police Department and the U.S. Forest Service are participating in the investigations. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I was handed this article when I got into work this morning and it turned my stomach sour. From what I read it seems more than obvious that some disgusting excuses for humans have been rounding up and testing on wild and domestic animals.. Could you imagine getting one of those phone calls and hearing, "Hello mam/sir we have found your cats/dogs body in a dump and was wondering what you could tell us about that." Those poor animals! :fallen: Some days I'm embarassed to admit that I'm a human. Because God knows no animal would submit any being to such terrible abuse as this.. |
OH MY GOSH! That is horrible. I am so disgusted, and can't believe people have done this!   |
I know!!! I hope whoever did this gets caught and dealt with OUT of court! If you catch my drift! |
Please keep us posted on this. It makes you wonder what chemicals were pumped into these animals and why they died. Hopefully this will get enough national coverage so Peta, Humane Society, and ASPCA to name a few can get involved and put a lot of pressure on the law to go after this company? or whomever did this with a full court press. This company needs to made an example of  |
I agree with you so much ...Some days it really IS awful to be human... but we know there is something terribly wrong with those heartless "Humans" that abuse and torture animals. That was truly sickening to read....what's even worse is thinking those poor animals are better off dead than in the hands of animal testing "facilities" or wherever they were.... Abuse of animals in our world is a far worse situation than any of us realize....it just seems to have no limits.... No limits at all. and that just makes me so sad :( |
This is disgusting! |
I can NOT believe what I just read. And to think less than 30 minutes before I had read about the smuggler's injecting drugs into the puppies. What in the heck has this world come to? I agree with you........somedays I am also ashamed to be human. |
We were discussing it at work and we supposed that some of their heads were decapitated so there couldn't be an autopsy done. :( I REALLY hope this gets a lot of coverage so that more organizations can step in and help pin these BEEP-holes. There isn't even an ASPCA in this area! GGRRRR! All I know is SOMEBODY needs to step up and nail these people! In response to Villettes comment.. Here's a quote from Mrs Briggs who is the founder for NHES (National Humane Education Society), Peace Plantation in New York and Briggs Animal Adoption Center here in Jefferson county, WV. BTW Mrs. Briggs is 96 yrs old and still attends work daily.. Now there's a human I'm proud to stand by. "The final lesson of mankinds evolution may well be - animals are sacred and deserving of our protection." - Anna C. Briggs |
 [/FONT] That is horrible !!! |
Unbelievable!!! You know what really gets me about the article is where 'Jenkins' talks about the fine for dumping. Geez, is killing them not a crime just dumping them is a crime?! Hopefully the vermin will be caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. |
This Human Has Got it Right "The greatness of a nation and it's moral progress can be judged by the way it's animals are treated. I hold that, the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man." - Mahatma Gandhi Now this human has got it right.. Apparently we are one seriously disturbed nation.. :thumbdown |

Who who would do that, to get that many dogs?? GOD that pisses me off... Does sound like someone doing tests on them. Keep us posted on what they do find out.. Please. |
