I had my gall bladder removed about 2 years ago, and honestly it was the greatest thing ever. I didn't have stones...mine just quit functioning. I had mine laproscopicly and I would like to say that it was a breeze but it was difficult for me (I'm a total pain wuss). But it was better than having 2-3 attacks a day, which was where I was at. The most painful thing about it was the gas that they use to fill up your stomach so they can do the surgery moving to my shoulders and giving me pain there, making it uncomfortable to lay down.
I don't know how much your doctor told you about your HIDA scan, but I can tell you that it was nothing to look forward to. They hook you up to an IV and then put radioactive fluid into your blood vessels. You then lay on a bench for an hour while the machine scans you. Then they give you a chemical which is similar to you eating a fatty meal to see how your gall bladder will react to it. It's not a very comfortable experience.
I would hate for you to think that this is meant to scare you, because it isn't. That is the first surgery I have ever had, so I don't know much about how to compare it. I will say that I was at a concert 3 days later. And because I'm allergic to pain meds, I was taking some very low strength pain killers. And either way, it was the most wonderful thing I have ever done. I still have attacks for some reason, but they are much less frequent.
