For all you sewing folks..... I've decided I am going to try to learn to sew again. I am pretty much self taught except for the help I get at the local fabric store when I really screw something up. I can make curtains, pillows and things like that, just haven't mastered clothing yet. Scrub tops came out looking like a tent with really small arm holes!!! Gave up after that! I have an old sewing machine, a cheap one that is about broken. It will cost more to repair it than I paid for it in the first place. So, hubby has agreed that I can get a new one. I basically want recommendations for one easy to use that works when I want it to (my current one doesn't...it has a mind of its own) and that does one step buttonholes. Also, don't want to spend as much as a car payment on it. Got any suggestions??? |
Give yourself a pat on the back, girlfriend. You will be a class act sewing queen in no time at all. You have the most important part -- desire to learn. I can't help you with a brand of sewing machine. I go for bells and whistles, lol I have two computerized embroidery/sewing machines. I didn't like the way the Husqvarna embroidered so I bought a Singer. I use the Husq for sewing (can't beat it for doing fine heirloom work) and I do my embroidery on the Singer. I would go to a store close to where you live where they have several brands, find a couple in your price range and then "test" drive them. Be sure that the folks at the store are nice and willing to spend time with you and answer your questions. GOOD LUCK. Let me know when you get your new machine..... |

I have a very old singer it was my grandmothers. Since my mom and I are the only ones that sew and mom has a babylock and a husqverna (sp) I got to have my grandmothers, which is geat cause my mom's also has a mind of it's own, I do better without bells and whistles, so I would say look into singer..it was the first machine my dad bought my mom when they got married and she loved it and made many dresses and toys for me and my dolls, the singer lasted until I was in 6th grade so it was pretty old when mom got a new one. . |
